This thesis is about academic view of the world from Dong-Ju Seong, Je-won(1506-1559). We could investigate the confucian’s philosophy by approaching various aspects. One of the answers when we ask philosophical ideology of Seong, Je-won is that he set the foundation of philosophy from his life. As considering Seong, Je-won life and poetry, I focus on how he understood human and the world at that time, although he was in seclusion. Unfortunately, it is impossible to make a model of his thoughts due to the fact that his argument and writing were not left, With interaction with scholars of the day and tombstones left, we would imagine his view of thoughts. He sought strict self-discipline as living in seclusion, and showed his sincerity and statement by poetry and his life itself. It means his life can be explained by the nature and universe through his poetry. He lived apart from messy life, and reached to psychological stage as being familiar with nature and poetry, which shows not only philosophical nostalgia also his philosophical life. To conclude, Seong, Je-won interacted with human and nature as composing a poem, across the ages and in all countries of the world.

이 글은 성제원(1506~1559)의 학문적 세계관을 조명하는 데 있다. 한 유학자의 철학을 탐색하는 데는 다양한 문제틀로 접근하여 조망해 볼 수 있다. 성제원의 철학사상을 탐색하는데 있어 다른 문제틀로 제시했을 때 돌아올 수 있는 답변의 갈래 중에 하나는 ‘삶으로서의 철학’을 정초한 인물 가운데 하나로 그려 볼 수 있다. 논자가 시문을 중심으로 성제원의 삶과 철학을 고찰하면서 관심 있게 살핀 것은 그가은거 자수 할 수밖에 없는 시대상황을 넘어 사유의 지향점이 당대의 인간과 세상을 어떻게 이해하고 있는가에 주안점을 두었다. 아쉽게도 성리학에 관한 글들이 남아 있지 않아서 구체적인 사유의 모형을 구축해내기가 불가함을 어쩔 수 없지만, 당대의 여러 학자들과의 교유, 남겨진 묘갈명 등을 통해 그의 사상적 면모를 그려볼 수 있다. 세상과 소통의관점에서 본다면 그는 은거의 방법을 통해 엄격한 자기 수양을 지향하였고 당대의 담론을 시를 통해 자신의 진솔함을 드려내고자 했다. 성제원의 삶 속에서도 그런 모습이 고스란히 드러난 초상이라 할 수 있다. 그리하여 인간과 세계, 그리고 자연과 우주의 모습을자신의 심정과 착목해서 시로 풀어낼 수밖에 없는 한 생애라고 할 수 있다. 이렇듯 어지러운 현실로부터 물러나서 자연과 벗하여 세상을 관조하고 시를 통해 정신적 경지를 개척하고자 했던 그의 삶의 자세에서 철학적 향수를 느낄 수 있으며, 또한 철학으로서의 삶의 모습도 체득해내고 있음을 알 수 있다. 결론적으로 말하면 성제원은 시를통해 인간과 자연사물 상호간의 소통, 인간 상호간에 관계를 고금을 초월하여 세상과의소통하고자 하였고, 삶으로서의 철학을 실천하였던 사유체계임을 알 수 있다.
