Comic books became a new genre when I met the Internet, cultural ripple effects are also increasing. This is called Webtoon. Webtoon is a combination of web and cartoon, which refers to a cartoon that can be viewed through internet network as PC and smartphone. Webtoon is used as various cultural contents such as movies and dramas. As the subject matter of movie or drama is depleted, the Webtoon uses diversity. It can be attributed to relatively less pressure by using the original popular Webtoon rather than completely new ones. In the process of trans-media, the narrative structure and characters of the story change depending on the characteristics of each medium. Films have a time limit in showtime, which leads to an open circuit between the lines and the characters, while TV dramas add, expand, and complex plots, which also complicate relationships. When moving from the original Webtoon to a drama, he used a strategy that met expectations through the addition of dramatic episodes. In this strategy, characters have also changed, both a component of the story and a driving force to generate and lead events. In this study, we examined the importance of changing characters that affect the completeness of works in the process of trans-media and identified character changes that reflect social trends through the process of media conversion.

만화가 인터넷을 만나 새로운 장르가 탄생하게 되었고, 문화적 파급력도 높아지고 있다. 이를 웹툰이 라고 한다. 웹툰은 웹(web)과 만화(cartoon)가 합쳐진 합성어로 인터넷망을 통해서 PC, 스마트폰 등으로 볼 수 있는 만화를 일컫는다. 웹툰은 영화나 드라마와 같이 다양한 문화콘텐츠 장르로 활용되고 있다. 영화나 드라마계의 소재가 고갈되어 웹툰의 다양한 소재를 활용하게 되었고, 완전 새로운 작품 보다 는 인기가 있는 웹툰의 원작을 활용함으로서 시청률이나 관객 동원 등의 부담감을 덜 수 있게 되었다. 트랜스 미디어의 과정에서 이야기의 서사구조, 캐릭터 등은 각 매체의 특성에 맞게 변화할 수밖에 없 다. 영화는 상영시간의 시간적 제약이 있어서 에피소드와 인물의 생략을 통한 서사와 갈등의 단선화가 이루어지는 반면 TV 드라마는 에피소드와 인물이 추가, 확장되고 복합적인 플롯으로 변화 되며 인물관 계도 복잡해진다. 원작 웹툰에서 드라마로 전환시 극적인 에피소드의 추가를 통해 기대감을 충족시키는 전략을 사용하였다. 이와 같은 전략에 있어 스토리의 구성요소이자 사건을 발생시키고 이끌어나가는 원 동력 중 하나인 캐릭터도 변화하였다. 본 연구에서는 트랜스 미디어 과정에서 작품의 완성도에 영향을 미치는 캐릭터의 변화의 중요성을 실 제 사례를 통해 살펴보고 매체전환의 과정을 거치면서 사회 트렌드를 반영하는 캐릭터의 변화를 확인하였다.
