In modern society, cities have become not only a place of life, but also an important unit that affects the way people exist and think. The recent interest in cities around the world proves this. Urban storytelling discourse is also linked to this trend. Urban storytelling is the activity of discovering, creating, or spreading stories that are necessary to construct the identity of a city. The story is based on various memories of individuals about urban spaces. These activities are not aimed at capitalist urban marketing, but at re-appropriation cities by the citizens. The urban storytelling performance, which is studied in this paper, is a joining of non-mainstream urban stories and performance. The created stories in a historical site, Seodaemun Prison. This paper looked at the from the perspective of a urban storytelling performance. The story of this performance was created as a story shared by the people of the city, a story of the past but still of the present, a story of which the participant can identify with their own existence. Urban storytelling performance is very important in constructing the performance of place and placeness. Also physical of a place, historical and cultural factors are important. There is a co-existence of individuals and communities. And the past and the present coexist. As a result, the identity of ‘I' and ‘community' are reconstructed. The acting in the performance is a combination of a ‘mimesis' that imitates human behavior and a ‘diegesis’ that narrates narrative. This paper was searched whether the performance, which accepted contemporary discourse of ‘city’ and ‘memory’, could function as a new venue for cultural approriation.

현대 사회에서 도시는 삶의 공간일 뿐 아니라 사람들의 존재 방식과 사고까지 영향을 미치는 중요한 단위가 되었다. 최근 전 세계적으로 일고 있는 도시에 대한 관심이 이를 방증한다. 도시 스토리텔링 담론 역시 이러한 흐름과 연관되어 있다. 도시 스토리텔링은 도시의 정체성을 확립하는데 필요한 이야기를 발 견하고 창조하여 보급 또는 확산하는 활동이다. 이 때 이야기는 도시 공간에 대한 개인들의 다양한 기억 을 기반으로 한다. 이러한 활동은 자본주의적 도시 마케팅이 아니라 도시민들의 도시 재 전유를 목적으 로 한다. 이 논문의 연구 대상인 도시 스토리텔링 연극은 비자본주의적 도시 이야기와 연극의 만남이다. 연극 <고독한 목욕>은 서대문형무소라는 역사적 장소에서 이야기를 발굴하여 창작한 작품이다. 이 논 문은 <고독한 목욕>의 공연 사례를 도시 스토리텔링 연극의 관점으로 고찰하였다. <고독한 목욕>의 스토 리텔링은 도시 공동체가 공유하는 이야기, 과거의 이야기이지만 현재에도 그 의미를 공감할 수 있는 이 야기, 관객이 자기 존재와 동일시 할 수 있는 이야기라는 전제하에 개발되었다. 도시 스토리텔링 연극은 장소와 장소성이 공연을 구성하는데 매우 중요하다. 그리고 연극을 형상화할 때 장소의 물리적 요소와 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 형성된 사회·문화적 요소도 간과할 수 없다. 그것들을 통해 과거와 현재, 개인과 공동 체가 공존하게 되고 그 결과 ‘나’와 ‘공동체’의 정체성이 재구성되기 때문이다. 이 연극에서의 연기는 인 간의 행동을 모방하는 ‘미메시스’ 방식과 서사를 전달하는 ‘디에게시스’ 방식이 혼용되었다. 이 논문은 연극이 ‘도시’와 ‘기억’이라는 동시대 담론을 수용하여 문화 재전유의 새로운 장으로서 기능 할 수 있을지 탐색하였다.
