This paper discusses the employment of repair system and the different types of agreement/assessment found in advanced Korean language learners’ spoken data which comprises both Korean and English speeches. This study takes a Conversation Analysis method to closely examine the on-going interaction of the conversation in order to discover how advanced Korean language learners adopt repair strategies in Korean (L2) and in English (L1) and how they make assessments in the progress of the talk. It was found that the L2 learner would try self-initiated self-repair initially but if fails, they turn to other-repair to treat the problem source, whereas when speaking in English (L1), same-turn self-repair was dominant along with a recycling strategy to take the floor rather aggressively. In terms of assessment and agreement, there has not been a significant difference between Korean (L2) and English (L1) speeches, however, it was found that the assessments occur in different positions of the turn(s) and the speakers would employ intensifiers or delaying sounds to either upgrade their agreement or to express disagreement.

이 연구는 고급 한국어 언어 학습자들의 한국어와 영어 구어 자료에서 나타난 수정 체계 (repair system)와 동의/평가(agreement/assessment)의 다양한 형태들을 논의한다. 본 연구는 담화분석(Conversation Analysis)의 방법을 통하여 진행 중인 대화의 상호작용을 면밀히 분석하여 고급과정 한국어 언어학습자들이 한국어와 영어를 발화시 어떠한 수정 전략을 채택하는지를 파악하고 대화를 발전시키면서 사용되는 평가에 대해 알아본다. 제2 언어학습자의 경우 자기시발 자기수정(self-initiated self-repair)를 먼저 시도하나 만약 그것이 실패할 경우 타자 수정(other-repair)으로 돌려 문제를 해결하려고 한 반면 모국어인 영어를 사용했을 경우 동일구간 자기수정(same-turn self-repair)이 우세했다. 평가와 동의전략에 있어서는 제2외국어인 한국어와 모국어 영어 발화에 크게 다른 점은 보이지 않았으나 평가가 각 발화 구간에서 다양한 위치에서 나타났으며 발화자들이 강화어(intensifiers)나 지연 전략을 사용하여 자신의 의견 일치나 불일치를 개선하려고 하는 것을 볼 수 있었다.
