Mediating Effect of Basic Psychological Needs on Adolescents Perceived Parent Attachment and Interpersonal Orientation

The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of basic psychological needs on adolescents perceived parental attachment and interpersonal orientation. For this, Jdo also used the questionnaire responses of 405 students in 4 middle schools 1 and 2 as an analysis data. The measurement tools used parent attachment, basic psychological needs, interpersonal orientation measure. The collected data were subjected to a multiple regression analysis to verify the mediating effect by three-step verification of Baron and Kenny (1986). Sobel test was performed to confirm the significance of the mediation effect. The results of the study are as follows. First, adolescents' perceived parental attachment, basic psychologicals needs, interpersonal orientation showed a significant positive correlation. Second, in the relationship between parent attachment and interpersonal orientation perceived by adolescents, total mediation effect of basic psychological needs was verified. Third, in the relationship between parent attachment and interpersonal orientation perceived by adolescents, autonomy and competence, which are sub-variables of basic psychological needs, were verified as full mediating effects and relatedness was verified as partial mediating effects.
