The purpose of this study was to investigate variations of maternal linguistic input in infant-mother interactions. The subjects of this study were 22 care givers of children speaking Korean from 1 to 2 years of age in Yanji, China. We collected these mothers' utterances for two times with about one year interval. In Each time, each mother's spontaneous natural speech during interaction with her infant was videotaped for about 35 minutes, and then transcribed. Mothers' utterances were analysed by using KCLA and coded for discourse functions: explanation, indication, question, and question types: yes-no question, wh-question, open question. The result showed that maternal linguistic input did vary complexly in lexical categories and gramma, and was significantly increased in open-question as her infant get older.
