In many research related to the social capital, those studies focused on the behavioral dimension of social capital, such as private network, recognition and participation. The structural perspectives of social capital have been relatively less emphasis than the behavioral or cognitive perspectives. So far, although the physical elements and infrastructure of the city have recognized as an important factor to change the behavior of the inhabitants of the city, those factors are not treated as significant ones in local community. So the purpose of this study emphasize that the urban physical factors could be key elements of social capital and examine the impact of urban infrastructures empirically. To this end, this study discusses the theoretical part of generally discussed concept of social capital, and arranges a variety of factors. Especially the analysis presents spatial indicators related to social capital among existing theories. In addition, we empirically conduct the exploratory analysis on the impact of urban infrastructure on social capital.

지금까지 사회자본의 측정 혹은 그 영향요인을 도출하는 많은 연구들은 참여나 네트워크와 같은 개인의 행태적 차원을 종합하여 연구를 진행해왔다. 일부 사회자본 이 가지는 구조적·물리적 부문을 강조하고 있는 연구에서 조차도 영향요인을 구체화 하지 못하거나 규범적 수준에서 진행되는 모습을 보인다. 하지만 도시의 물리적 요 소, 인프라 구조 등은 도시 거주민들의 행태를 변화시키는 중요한 요소로 인식되어 왔으며, 이러한 영향관계는 지역 커뮤니티의 사회자본에 있어서도 밀접한 상관관계 를 가진다. 이에 본 연구는 도시의 공간적 요소가 사회자본 형성에 있어 중요한 요소일 수 있음을 살펴보고, 구체적인 도시현황 지표를 활용하여 사회자본에 대한 도시 인프라 구조의 영향을 실증적으로 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위하여 본 논문에서는 전통적인 사회자본의 개념을 정리하고 현재까지 사회자본의 영향요인에 대한 다양한 선행연구 를 검토하였다. 특히, 도시의 공간적 요소와 관련된 사회자본의 물리적 영향요인을 검토하고 주요 지표를 도출하여, 도시의 인프라 구조가 사회자본에 미치는 영향에 관한 실증적 분석을 제시하였다. 본 연구에서 탐색적으로 제시된 실증분석 결과는 대부분 유의미한 결과를 산출하지 못하고 있다. 이는 변수가 가지는 수준과 특성의 문제, 내용적 타당성의 문제, 표본의 크기 문제 등에 기인하는 것으로 판단된다. 그 럼에도 불구하고 본 연구는 향후 사회자본 연구에 있어서 도시지표의 활용 가능성 을 제시하고 있다는 점에서 그 정책적 시사점을 제시하고 있다.
