We surveyed literatures about the diachronic changes of the grammatical morpheme -nʌ- and found some issues. As a result, we found that it is necessarily examined that not only -nʌ- in Middle Korean (MK) but also ‘-內-’, ‘-飛-’, ‘-臥-’ in Old Korean (OK) and not only [Present Tense] but also [Constancy] to precisely figure out the diachronic changes to -nɯ- in PDK (Present-Day Korean). From now on, thus, it is needed to study about the following things. Firstly, ‘-內-’, ‘-飛-’, and ‘-臥-’ in OK are most likely related with -nʌ- in MK. But it is required prior that to determine the distributions and functions of ‘飛 ()’ and ‘臥 ()’ and compare with those of ‘內’ to make clear the relation between -nʌ- in OK and MK. And it is needed to explain the semantic merge of two meanings, [Present Tense] and [Constancy]. Secondly, -nʌ- in MK is well known for the usage to mark [Present Tense] with verbs. But we need to examine if there are any other exceptional distributions and functions of -nʌ- and also make clear that the position of -nʌ- in regard of the TAM system in MK. Lastly, -nʌ- underwent increasing allomorphs and decreasing in the distribution in EMK (Early Modern Korean). The syntactic distribution of -nʌ- need to be more searched in regard of the formation of the various endings and past tense marker -əs-.

이 글에서는 문법 형태 ‘-ᄂᆞ-’의 통시적 변화에 대하여 이제까지 이루어진 선행연구를 정리하고, 관련된 쟁점들을 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 현대국어의 ‘-느-’로 이어지는 변화를 정확하게 파악하려면 형식면에서는 중세국어의 ‘-ᄂᆞ-’뿐만 아니라 고대국어의 ‘-內-’, ‘-飛-’, ‘-臥-’까지, 의미면에서는 기존에 알려진 [현재시제] 외에 [항상성] 용법까지 시야에 넣어야 함을 확인하였다. 이에 따라 향후 연구에서는 다음과 같은 사항을 고려해야 할 것이다. 먼저, 고대국어의 ‘-內-’와 ‘-飛-’, ‘-臥-’는 중세국어의 ‘-ᄂᆞ-’와 관련될 가능성이 매우 높다. 그러나 양자의 관계를 밝히기 위해서는 ‘飛()’와 ‘臥()’의 분포와 기능을 분명히 한 뒤 그것과 ‘內’를 비교ㆍ대조하는 작업이 이루어져야 한다. 또한 [항상성]과 [현재시제]라는 두 가지 의미가 합류하는 과정에 대한 설명도 필요하다. 다음으로, 중세국어의 ‘-ᄂᆞ-’는 그 기능, 즉 동사와 결합하여 [현재시제]를 나타내는 용법으로 잘 알려져 있다. 그러나 그 밖의 예외적인 분포와 기능이 어떤 환경에서 나타나는지 자세히 살펴보아야 한다. 또한 중세국어의 시제ㆍ상ㆍ서법 체계와 관련하여 ‘-ᄂᆞ-’의 위치가 어떤 것인지 명확히 할 필요가 있다. 마지막으로, 근세국어의 ‘-ᄂᆞ-’는 이형태의 증가와 함께 분포의 축소를 겪었다. 현대국어로 오면서 생겨나는 다양한 어미 및 과거시제 표지 ‘-엇-’의 형성과 관련하여 ‘-ᄂᆞ-’의 분포를 통사적인 환경에 따라 보다 면밀히 고찰할 필요가 있다.
