This study intends to look into the expressive characteristics of automatism in fashion through modern fashion illustration, which has been studied only in the field of painting or sculpture until now. It needs to offer the value as new visual art and carry out research on the works of artistic fashion illustration using automatism. Next, it is to seek the possibility and value of delivering more effective and persuasive fashion images to modern artists and modern people. First I had to look into the core of automatism. Then I looked into what automatism was like in modern fashion illustration, using several steps. First, Looking at the trend of fashion illustration by analyzing previous studies of automatism. Second, A survey was given out to experts to identify the characteristics of automatism. Third, Once the first 1,129 works were collected from domestic and foreign artists, the second survey was carried out to a group of experts. Forth, The 287 photos selected by more than half of the group were used for analysis. The distribution in each expressive characteristic showed that the improvisation of action painting(28%) was the highest, followed by the fantasy of collage(27.7%), the unconsciousness of free dessin(27%), the multiplicity of decalcomanie(9.6%), the space of assemblage(4.7%), and the contingency of frottage(3%). Fifth, The survey resulted in combining and analyzing 287 photos involving the usage of automatism.

본 연구의 목적은 현대 패션 일러스트레이션에 나타난 오토마티즘 특성을 분석하여 무의식적·우연적 효과의 창의적인 표현양식을 기반으로 한 패션 일러스트레이션 작품을 제작하여 패션 이미지 전달의 새로운 가능성과 가치를 제안하고자 한다. 연구의 내용 및 방법은 문헌연구와 실증적 연구를 병행하여 오토마티즘과 패션 일러스트레이션의 이론적 고찰을 바탕으로 현대 패션 일러스트레이션에 나타난 오토마티즘의 표현 특성을 분석한 후 패션 일러스트레이션 작품을 제작하였다. 첫째, 오토마티즘의 이론적 고찰과 함께 조형예술 분야의 다양한 선행 연구를 분석하여 오토마티즘의 표현 특성을 도출한 후 현대의 패션 일러스트레이션 작품을 살펴보았다. 둘째, 본 연구의 실증적 연구로는 패션 일러스트레이션 작품에 나타난 오토마티즘의 표현 특성을 파악하기 위해 9인의 패션디자인 전공 전문가들에게 설문조사를 실시하여 작품 사진을 검증하였다. 셋째, 실증적 연구의 범위는 2010년부터 2016년까지 발표된 국내외 패션 일러스트레이션 작가들의 작품들을 패션잡지, 작가홈페이지, 인터넷 웹사이트 등에서 1129점을 1차 수집하였다. 넷째, 2차 과정에서는 작품선정의 객관성과 타당성을 높이기 위해 설문조사를 실시하여 오토마티즘과 관련된 패션 일러스트레이션 작품을 검증한 후 총 287점을 선별하였다. 이에 나타난 현대 패션 일러스트레이션에 나타난 오토마티즘의 표현 특성에 따른 분포 결과는 액션 페인팅의 즉흥성(28%), 콜라주의 환상성(27.7%), 자유뎃생의 무의식성(27%), 데칼코마니의 다중성(9.6%), 앗상블라주의 공간성(4.7%), 프로타주의 우연성(3%) 순으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 실증적 연구를 토대로 오토마티즘의 6가지의 표현 특성을 반영한 패션 일러스트레이션 작품을 6점 제작하였다. 이와 같이 오토마티즘의 무의식적 정신과 이에 따른 표현 특성이 반영된 실험적인 패션 일러스트레이션 작품을 제작함으로써 패션 일러스트레이션 분야의 기초자료제공과 실험적이고 다양한 표현 기법 개발연구에 도움이 되기를 기대하는 바이다.
