The Jonggyogae Jaemyungsa Gangyeonjip; the Sermon collection by renowned preachers of Religious Circle has twenty sermons including 5 seasonal sermons. The collection was published in July 1922 during the Japanese colonial period. The book is the first seasonal sermon collection in Korea and the second sermon colletcion of Korean church followed by the Paikmok Kangyun. The Jonggyogae Jaemyungsa Gangyeonjip was a transcript of tape-recording by the editor Han Seokwon, who attended the actual places of preaching. This makes the book special that the book reminds the readers of the vivid voices of the preachers. The book also secretly reveals the spirit of resistance of the 33 Korean leaders, including seven pastors, against the Japanese empire. It shows several parts of deletion by the Japanese Government-General of Korea without any editing. Therefore, the book is a valuable historial records of Korean history. From the Jonggyogae Jaemyungsa Gangyeonjip, we can confirm that there were various terms, which indicated today’s ‘preaching.’ As time went by, the term ‘preaching’ was accepted as today’s meaning. Moreover, the topical preaching was widely used as one of the representative preaching styles in Korean church, which was influenced by Western missionaries. Moreover, this study confirms many preachers' tendency to select the New Testament over the Old Testament. Through this study, we will see some different features between the seasonal preaching in the Jonggyogae Jaemyungsa Gangyeonjip and current seasonal preaching style. Furthermore, sermons in the book reveal some features such as using a life story in the introduction. Through the study about the Jonggyogae Jaemyungsa Gangyeonjip, we will examine sermons of the early Korean church and some applicable-useful points for the 21st centuries’ Korean preachers.

일제강점기 이었던 1922년 7월 출간된 종교계 저명사 강연집 (宗敎界 著名士 講演集)은 총 20편의 설교 중 5편의 절기 설교를 수록하고 있는 한국 최초의 절기 설교집 이다. 아울러 1921년 7월 에 출간된 한국 최초의 설교집 백목강연에 이어 나온 한국교회의 두 번째 설교집이다. 종교계 저명사 강연집은 편집인 한석원이 직접 설교현장에 참여하여 녹취한 설교문 을 수록한 것이기 때문에 당시 설교 현장의 생생한 음성을 되새길 수 있는 특별함이 있다. 아울러 3.1운동 이후 일제에 대한 저항심이 은연중 드러나는데 총 20명의 설교자중 7명이 3.1운동에 민족대표로 참여한 분들이며 조선총독부의 검열에 걸려 삭제된 부분을 편집 없이 그대로 싣고 있다는 점은 역사적 사료로서 그 가치가 높다. 우리는 종교계 저명사 강연집을 통해 ‘설교’라는 용어가 일제 강점기 당시 여러 가지 다른 용어와 함께 혼용되다가 점진적으로 오늘날의 용어로 정착되었음을 다시 한 번 확인 할 수 있다. 아울러 일제강점기 초기 선교사들의 영향을 받아 주제설교의 형태가 주로 사용 되어 왔고 구약보다 신약의 본문이 더 빈번히 사용되었음을 확인 할 수 있다. 종교계 저명사 강연집에 대한 연구를 통해 우리는 한국교회 절기설교의 초기 형태가 오늘날과는 많이 다른 것을 확인 할 수 있다. 즉 오늘날의 일반적 절기 설교는 절기의 유래 등에 대해 설명하고 성경의 내용을 해당절기와 관련해서 풀어내는 특징을 보이는데 종교계 저명사 강연집에 나타난 한국교회 초기 절기설교 형태는 절기에 대해 특별한 언급이 없이 서론과 본론을 이끌어가다가 결론부에 가서 설교자가 의도한 주제들과 절기를 몇 문장으로 연계시키는 특징을 보인다. 그리고 설교의 도입부에 생활 예화를 함으로서 회중의 관심을 유발한 후 점진적으로 설교의 주제로 이끌어가는 설교기법을 사용하고 있다. 본 소고에서는 우리나라 절기 설교집의 시초이면서 두 번째 발행된 설교집인 종교계 저명사 강연집에 대한 심층적 연구를 통해 초기 한국교회 설교들과 그 특징들에 대해 살펴보고 21세기 한국교회 설교자들을 위해 적용할 점을 생각해 본다.
