청와대 지방분권위원회는 광역자치경찰제도에 관한 방안을 곧 내놓고 시범운영 을 거쳐 2020년에는 본격적으로 시행한다고 하고 있다. 자치경찰제도가 더욱더 안착되려면, 전국적 또는 광역적 위기상황에서 자치경 찰력을 잘 활용하여 이를 극복할 수 있는 체계를 갖추어야 한다. 국가경찰조직만 으로 해결할 수 없는 일이 많아지는 현대의 위기상황으로 인해 자치경찰이 발달하 고 지방분권화가 많이 진행된 미주 및 유럽경찰에서도 신중앙집권화가 나타나고 있다. 멕시코 등 까르뗄(Cartel, 갱단) 등 군 및 경찰력의 무장에 맞서는 조직들이 나타나고 있는 곳에서도 단일지휘체계(Mando Unico)를 진행하고 있다. 우리나라도 시행착오를 최소화하며 시민들의 민의가 잘 반영되는 자치경찰제도 의 성공적 안착을 위해서 위기관리를 위한 체계를 더욱 세밀히 연구하고 준비하여 나가야 한다.
