This study intends to reveal that ‘body’ is used as a passage of memory recollection in Kim Jong-sam’s poetry. Kim Jong-sam’s poetic world is examined with reference to the discussion of the German philosopher Walter Benjamin, who paid attention to the image as thought. The poetic subject, by recalling the “dead body,” reveals the ethics that transcend everyday life, and the responsibility to convey memory, in calling out forgotten things again in death-like oblivion, answering calls of forgotten memories, and in solidarity. Kim Jong-’sam’s poetry and joy also reveals not only sadness and guilt, but also pleasure in his poetry, by finding out that he was born of his bodily experiences, such as the ‘eating body’ and ‘satiated body.’ As a result, Kim Jong-’sam’s poetry can be emphasized as a language which is appropriate for social and historical life.

이 연구는 김종삼 시의 ‘몸’이 시적 주체가 기억을 회상하는 통로로 쓰임을 밝히고자 한다. 사유로서의 이미지에 주목한 독일 철학자 발터 벤야민의 논의를 참고하여, 김종삼의 시세계를 고찰하였다. 그의 시에서 시적 주체는 ‘죽은 몸’을 회상함으로써 사회역사적으로 망각된 것들을 죽음의 영역에서 불러온다. 동시에 시체로 표현된 망각된 기억이 주체를 호출할 때 이에 응답함으로써 연대를 이루고 일상을 초월하는 윤리를 제시했으며, 더 나아가 기억을 전달하는 자로서의 책무를 드러냈다. 또한 김종삼의 시에 등장하는 순간성과 기쁨이 ‘먹는 몸’, ‘충만한 몸’ 등 몸의 경험에서 빚어진 것을 찾아냄으로써 슬픔이나 죄의식만이 아니라 ‘즐거움’ 또한 그의 시에서 주목할 만한 감정임을 밝혀냈다. 그 결과 김종삼의 시가 사회역사적 삶을 전유하는 언어로 이루어진 것을 강조할 수 있었고, 사회역사적 현실을 전환하는 행복에 대한 의지를 읽어낼 수 있었다.
