This study attempts to divide the detailed meaning function of interventions and explore and analyze the reality of use in entertainment programs. As spoken intervention has been seen as an example of men’s aggressive dialogue, this study aims to investigate whether there is room for reinterpretation of characteristics of sexual disparity between men and women over existing interventions. For the study three talk show programs were selected to effectively demonstrate how men and women interact with each other in the media. Interruption scenes caused by intervention were collected from these programs and analyzed to see whether they were friendly or unfavorable to the present speaker, then analysis was conducted regarding whether the distribution was different according to gender. Women were found to be more likely to use favorable interventions, and rather than engaging in the flow of topics, they were often seen to use interventions to improve emotional communication and solidarity with others. However, in the program featuring a mix of genders, women showed an active attitude, not only to favorable intervention but also to unfavorable intervention. This was witnessed not only with male performers but also with other female performers, showing that they were more aggressive and actively involved in the conversation. Males intervened more favorably in with women than with men, as already shown in previous research results, however, as males less frequently intervene than females, favorable interventions are frequently composed of males and females, somewhat differing with the ideas of dominant and aggressive ways of conversing based on men trying to assert power. The results of this study seem to show that the way men and women converse is gradually changing and it is changing equally, regardless of gender difference.

본고는 말 끼어들기의 세부적 의미기능을 나누어 이의 사용실태를 오락프로그램을 대상으로 조사, 분석해 보았다. 말 끼어들기는 남성의 공격적 대화방식을 보여주는 사례로 정리되었는바, 본고는 기존의 말 끼어들기를 둘러싼 남녀의 성차적 특징이 재해석될 여지가 있는지를 알아보고자 한 것이다. 구체적으로 (1) 대중매체에서 남녀의 대화방식을 가장 잘 보여줄 수 있는 토크쇼 형식의 프로그램 3편을 선정하여 (2) 말 끼어들기로 인한 말 겹침 장면만을 모아 현재 화자에게 우호적이었는지, 비우호적이었는지를 분석하고 (3) 그 분포가 성차에 따라 달리 나타나는지를 비교 분석해 보았다. 그 결과 여성은 우호적 말 끼어들기를 좀 더 자주 사용하고 있었으며, 특히 화제의 흐름에 관여하기보다는 상대방과의 정서적 교류, 연대감을 살리는 말 끼어들기를 자주 사용함을 보이었다. 그러나 혼성 출연자가 나온 프로그램에서 여성은 우호적 말 끼어들기만이 아니라 비우호적 말 끼어들기에도 적극적으로 임하는 모습을 보였으며, 이는 이성만이 아니라 동성과의 말차례에도 동일하게 목격되어, 언제 어디서나 대화의 주도권을 놓치지 않으려는 모습을 보이었다. 또한 남성은 선행연구결과와 같이 동성보다는 이성의 말차례에 자주 개입하는 모습을 보였으나, 우호적 말 끼어들기를 자주 행하거나 혼성으로 구성된 경우 여성보다 말 끼어들기를 적게 행하는 등 기존에 남성의 힘에 근거한 지배적, 공격적 대화 진행방식과는 다소 다른 면모가 발견되기도 하였다. 이를 토대로 본고는 남성과 여성의 대화진행방식은 조금씩 변모하고 있고 성차에 구별 없이 동일하게 변해가는 중이라는 결론에 이르렀다.
