Amongst an abundance of research that has been focusing on the distinctive features of the language, Japanese sentence styles seemingly remains a largely untouched subject. This study aims to look into the practical usage of ‘Noun/NO∼’, such as ‘Noun/NO/KOTO’, ‘Noun/NO/Verb-KATA’, and ‘Noun1/NO/Noun2’, highlighting the use of concise expressions within Japanese sentences. ‘Noun/NO/KOTO’, when used in explaining ‘something in relation to N’ or ‘something surrounding N’, may be seen as containing ambiguity to some extent, which makes it difficult to directly refer to ‘N’. ‘Noun/NO/Verb󰠏KATA’ effectively simplifies ‘how N does V in certain way/manner’. Different characteristics of the verb are displayed depending on the relationship between ‘N’ and ‘V’, and the omission of ‘Noun/NO’. ‘Noun1/NO/Noun2’ can be used as a modifier clause and a modificand noun, and form a more concise nuance. Concise expressions using ‘Noun/NO∼’ can be viewed as a distinctive feature of Japanese sentences stemming from ‘natural Japanese’. The inability of Korean Japanese-learners to use these expressions in practice, despite being aware of them, may be due to their lack of understanding on Japanese sentence styles, hence the need for a thorough education in relation to this.

일본어의 특징에 관한 수많은 연구가 있는 가운데, 일본어의 문 스타일을 언급하는 연구는 많지 않다. 본 연구에서는, 일본어문에서 긴 설명 대신 간결한 표현의 사용이 눈에 띈다는 것에 주목하여, 「Nノコと」, 「Nノ(V󰠏)方」, 「N1ノN2」와 같은 ‘Nノ∼’형태의 실제 사용 예를 살펴보았다. 「Nノコと」는, ‘N에 관련된’, ‘N을 둘러싼’이라고 하는 다소 막연한 내용을 함축적으로 나타내는 말로써 직설적이지 않으면서 간결한 뉘앙스를 이 한 마디에 담아 나타내기 때문에 ‘N’으로의 단순한 치환은 어렵다. 「Nノ(V󰠏)方」는, ‘N이[을, 에] 어떤 방법, 어떤 모습으로 V하는지’를 간결하게 나타낸 표현으로, ‘N’과 ‘V’의 관계, ‘Nノ’의 생략여하에 따른 동사의 성격 등에 다양성이 보인다. 또한 「N1ノN2」는, ‘N1’과 ‘N2’가 일반적인 소유격조사의 관계 틀에서 벗어나 ‘연체수식절＋피수식명사’를 나타내는 데도 쓰이며 이를 이용해 간결한 뉘앙스를 전달할 수 있다. 이로써 ‘Nノ∼’형태를 활용한 간결한 표현은, ‘올바른 일본어’를 넘어 ‘자연스러운 일본어’에 기초한, 일본어문의 특징 중 하나임을 확인할 수 있었다. 참고로 한국인일본어학습자들은 이들 개개의 표현을 알고 있음에도 문 속에서의 활용이 제대로 이루어지지 않는 경우가 많은데, 이는 일본어의 문 스타일에 대한 이해가 부족한 데에 기인하는 것일 것이다. 이에 관련된 교육 역시 필요한 이유이다.
