In this study, the purpose is to verify the characteristics on selecting the third person of ‘kono hito/sono hito/ano hito’ through the comparison and contrast with ‘kare’. The study was conducted whether the 4 characteristics of ‘kare’ pointed out in advanced studies including ① cannot be used if the subject is in front of you, ② cannot be used to the subject newly introduced in the conversation before and after the introduction, and cannot be used if the listening person may not be specified, ③ can be used on the person of subject, and ④ can be used consecutively, have a relationship with the selection of ‘kono hito/sono hito/ano hito’. As a result, it was verified that the limitations of ①② do not exist in ‘kono hito/sono hito/ano hito’, and it may be used instead of ‘kare’; as for ③④, it may be used on the person of subject for both ‘kono hito/sono hito/ano hito’ and ‘kare’ if the specific person is instructed, but when using the same words consecutively in case of ‘kono hito/sono hito/ano hito’, it is instructed in the same person, but it is not constant for ‘kare’.

본고는 3인칭 ‘kono hito/sono hito/ano hito’가 선택될 때의 특징을 ‘kare’와 비교 대조를 하는 것으로 밝히려고 하는 것이다. 선행 연구로 지적된 ‘kare’가 갖고 있는 ①대상이 눈앞에 있을 경우 사용할 수 없다, ②대화에 있어서 새롭게 도입된 대상에는 도입 전후에서 사용할 수 없고, 듣는 이를 특정할 수 없으면 사용할 수 없다, ③화제의 인물에게 사용할 수 있다, ④연속해서 사용할 수 있다는 4가지의 특징이 ‘kono hito/sono hito/ano hito’의 선택에 관계되는지 여부를 고찰했다. 그 결과, ①②와 같은 제한이 ‘kono hito/sono hito/ano hito’에는 없고 ‘kare’ 대신 사용할 수 있다는 점, ③④에 대해서는 ‘kono hito/sono hito/ano hito’도 ‘kare’도 특정한 인물을 지시할 경우에는 화제의 인물에게 사용할 수 있지만, ‘kono hito/sono hito/ano hito’가 같은 단어를 연속할 때에는 같은 인물을 지시하는 것에 반해, ‘kare’는 일정하지 않다는 점이 밝혀졌다.
