The review on the formation and transformation Swan Maiden Tales in Omi Region

This review aims to conduct a diachronic study on the formation and transformation Swan Maiden Tales in Omi Region, inquire materials related to Sugawarano Michizane from Hudoki, Swan Maiden tales of Nara period and Swan Maiden tales of Yogo lake since Heian Period. Swan Maiden Tales from Hudoki of Omi region emphasizes that Swan represents Rice Deity, the intermediary between God and humans, Ikago family whose ancestor was Taoist fairy is in duty bound to intermediate God and humans so that intends to enhance the reputation of Ikago family. Meanwhile The Legends goes that Sugawarano Michizane was the son of a man and Taoist fairy in Ika District, Omi Region. Among them, The Story told in Kawanami village(formed in 1612) was made up with Kirihata’s family in mind and intended to exalt Ikago’s whole family and that village. The origin of Kirihata in Kawanami village has been passed down more distendedly and transformed varously compared to previous generation’s lengends.

본고는 오미 지방의 우의전설의 성립과 변용에 관해서, 「풍토기」를 중심으로 한 나라시대의 우의전설과 헤이안 시대 이래의 요고호의 우의전설 가운데, 스가와라노 미치자네와 관련이 있는 자료를 통시적으로 검토한 것이다. 「오미지방 풍토기」의 우의 전설은, 백조는 곡령신(穀靈神영)으로 신과 인간의 중개자를 상징하며, 이카고 가문의 조상은 선녀임을 강조하여, 인간과 신을 중재(仲裁)하는 이카고 가문의 직무를 정당화하고, 그 가문을 선양(宣揚)하는 의도가 배경에 있다고 생각할 수 있다. 한편, 오미지방 이카군에는 남자와 선녀 사이에 태어난 남자아기가 유명한 스가와라노 미치자네였다는 전설이 전해지고 있다. 그 중에서 「가와나미 마을에 전해지는 이야기」(1612년 성립)는 「기리하타 씨」의 가계(家系)를 염두에 둔 것으로 이 역시 「기리하타 씨」의 일족 및 마을을 선양 하려는 의도가 보인다. 한편, 「가와나미 마을 기리하타 유래담」은 전대의 전설과 비교해 전승의 확대와 다양한 변용을 확인할 수 있었다.
