Park Hwa-sung was born to women who have been marginalized from the social system of the Late Period of Chosun that seems to have been the most milestone in the history of Korea. She was originally sought ‘independent proactive woman's life’, or ‘women's liberation’. However, while lived in the colonial reign of Japan, the ‘women's liberation’ was not to be obtained, through separated from the ‘national liberation’. There is a need to be ahead of what came to realize that ‘national liberation’. Therefore, she choose literature as a means of “reality reform’, and proceeded to shape of the clarity to the subject. However, while colonial regime has been strengthened, in her literary range is gradually reduced from ‘social thing’ to ‘living ones’. Moreover, she also be equated with invincible natural disasters the colonial rule that can not be denied. Finally, at the colonial end stage when literati had converted to pro_Japanese, she represented the escapism as ‘silence’. Park Hwa sung who was straight pursuing the ‘realism of socialistic’ after start hers literary career, she were able to make a bold selection of ‘silence’ as literature. And to it was sublimed into the construction of internal world, she could enter the active phase after liberation. Finally, she showed the literary life force as a ‘writer passing through the Korean literature’.

한국 역사상 가장 고비였다고 여겨지는 구한말 사회제도로부터 소외된 여성으로 태어난 박화 성이 당초 모색하였던 것은 ‘독립적이고 주체적인 여성의 삶’, 즉 ‘여성해방’이었다. 그러나 일제 의 강점이 현실화되고 식민치하에서 살아가는 동안 식민지에서 ‘여성해방’이란 ‘민족해방’과 분 리되어 얻어질 수 없다는 것이었으며, 무엇보다 선행되어야 할 것이 ‘민족해방’이라는 것을 깨닫 게 되었다. 그 때문에 ‘현실변혁의 한 수단으로서’ 문학을 택한 이래, 명쾌하게 그 주제를 형상화 해 나아갔다. 그러나 식민체제가 강화되어가면서 그의 문학적 범위가 ‘사회적인 것’에서 점차 ‘생활적인 것’ 으로 축소되어 가는 경향을 드러내다가 갈수록 옥죄어오는 식민통치를 불가항력적인 자연재해 와 등치시키기기도 한다. 그리고 대다수의 문인들이 친일로 전환하였던 식민지 말기에는 마침내 ‘침묵’을 고수하는 것으로 저항적인 면을 보여주기도 한다. 등단이후 올곧게 ‘소시얼리스틱 리얼리즘’을 추구하였던 박화성이었기에 문학인으로서 ‘침 묵’이라는 과감한 선택을 할 수 있었으며, 그것을 내부세계의 구축으로 승화시켰기에 해방직후 바로 활동기로 진입하여, 마침내 ‘한국문학사를 관통한 작가’로서의 문학적 생명력을 보여주지 않았나 싶은 것이다.
