The Chijido(七支刀) is currently preserved in the Isonokamijingu(石上神宮) of Japan. Since the Chiljido was discovered in 1874, it has long been a controversial issue between the academic world of two countries; Korea and Japan. This is a product of diplomatic relations with ancient Korea and Japan. However, the primary cause of the dispute is a lot of remaining chracters carved in Chiljido are difficult to read because of corrosion. For this problem, there are many previous studies. The results are as follows: At first, this is a theory which the Chijido bestowed upon Ancient Japan(倭) from Kudara(百 濟). Secondly, this is a theory which the Chijido granted in Ancient Japan from Kudara. Thirdly, this is a theory which the Chijido granted from Chinese Donjin(東晋) dynasty. The change of such a theory is related to Ancient KoreaJapan Relations. As for this, the claim that North Korean Seak hyoung Kim(金錫亨) announced in 1963 was a chance. Seeing from such a point of view, I doubt whether a historian could free before a person of country and the ideology. It is thought that we must be troubled for such a basic question. This is not a problem only for merely Japanese.

현재 일본의 石上神宮에 보관되어 있는 七支刀는 1874년 발견된 이래 지금까지 양국 학계에서 오랫동안 논쟁의 대상이 되어 왔다. 이것은 고대 한국과 일본의 외교 관계의 산물이라 할 수 있다. 하지만, 해석을 둘러싸고 많은 논쟁이 있었다. 그 논쟁의 1차적인 원인은 칠지도에 새겨진 글자가 오랜 세월로 인해 부식되어 판독하기 어려운 문자가 아직 남아 있기 때문이라 할 수 있다. 이에 대 한 선행연구는 많이 있는데, 이를 요약해 보면 다음과 같다, 첫째, 이것은 백제가 왜에 헌상하였다 는 백제헌상설을 들 수 있다. 둘째, 백제가 일본에 사여하였다는 백제하사설이 있다. 셋째는 중국 東晋 왕조의 하사설이란 주장이 있다. 이러한 주장은 시기에 따라 변화를 보이고 있는데, 이 변화는 고대한일관계사 연구와 밀접하게 연동되어 바뀌어 왔다고 할 수 있다. 이와 같은 역사 인식과 해석 변화의 계기를 제공한 것이 1963년 북한의 김석형이 발표한 연구였던 것이다. 그런데, 이런 역사 해 석의 변화를 고대한일관계사 연구의 관점이란 측면에서 본다면, 역사가가 국가와 민족이라는 이데 올로기 앞에서 얼마나 자유로울 수 있을까 하는 근본적인 질문을 불러일으키게 한다. 하지만 이 같 은 역사 해석의 차이는 단지 일본인만의 역사인식 문제라고 치부할 수는 없다고 생각한다.
