This research discusses the traditional Korean naturology in three categories: the reciprocal, the spiritual, and the ecological. Among these the most complex and particular development appears in the Correlation Theory of Heaven and Earth based on Ohaengji (Treatise on the Five Elements). This theory refers to the argument structure of Ohaengji, that is the second most compiled treatise following the Treatise on Astronomy. It is the characteristic naturology perceived through a very complicated structure containing theories of the Five Elements of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water; the Five Matters of society that are one's appearance, speech, seeing, hearing and thinking; and the vicissitudes of history caused by natural disasters. Although it might be an unfamiliar and difficult way of thinking for the modern person, this paper examines the fact that the Correlation Theory of Ohaengji was perceived as the realistic view of Nature, society, and human. It is understandable that in the realm of Nature of their perception, even the changes in the folk customs or sentiment were considered as part of the close correlations between nature and human. The Treatise on the Five Elements is analyzed as being composed of three axes for the interpretive system. They are the theories of abnormal occurrences in the Five Elements, in the Five Matters of society, or in the great royal road. In its philosophical basis this paper examines classic books among others the Spring and Autumn Annals by Confucius, Springs and Autumns Annals of Mr. Lü, Documents of the Shang, Nine Categories of Hongbeom, Record of Five Elements of Hongbeom, and Luxuriant Gems of the Spring and Autumn Annals. These books from ancient times provide the persistent flow of correla tion between heaven and human concerning abnormal occurrences. The Correlation Theory of Ohaengji, likewise, belongs to one of the most typical naturology of reciprocity and the theory of heaven and human reciprocity in ancient East Asia.
