The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of personality type and resilience on mental health of correctional officers after considering occupational stress. During March and April of 2018, 180 of correctional officers were recruited from 3 prisons located in east and south of Korea. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression were conducted using SPSS 22. Results were as follows. Subjective health perception, occupational stress, and neurotic personality type explained mental health of correctional officers 11.9%, 28.3%, and 7.1% respectively. Resilience did not significantly relate to the mental health of correctional officers. Therefore, intervention programs for reducing occupational stress in correctional officers are required to promote their mental health. In the meantime, officers with negative health perception of themselves and with neurotic personality are considered as the most vulnerable populations.

본 연구는 교정공무원의 직무스트레스를 고려한 상태에서 성격유형과 회복탄력성이 이들의 정신건강에 미치는 영향을 파악함으로써 교정공무원의 정신건강증진을 위한 기초자료를 제공하기 위해 시행되었다. 연구대상자는 우리나라 동부와 남부에 위치한 3개의 교정시설에 근무하는 교정공무원 180명이었으며, 2018년 3월에서 4월까지 설문조사를 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과, 일반적 특성 중에서는 주관적 건강인식만이 유일하게 교정공무원의 정신건강과 관련이 있었으며, 정신건강을 11.9% 설명하였다. 직무스트레스는 정신건강의 28.3%를 설명하였고, 직무스트레스가 증가할수록 정신건강이 나빠지는 것으로 나타났다. 성격유형의 경우에 신경증이 높은 유형에서 정신건강이 유의하게 나쁜 것으로 나타났으며, 정신건강의 7.1%를 설명하였다. 회복탄력성은 교정공무원의 정신건강에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 향후 교정공무원의 정신건강증진을 위해서는 직무스트레스를 낮추는 프로그램의 개발이 시급하며, 주관적 건강인식이 낮은 대상자와 성격유형 중 신경증이 높은 대상자는 정신건강이 취약해질 가능성이 크므로 정신건강증진 프로그램 적용 시 이들을 최우선으로 고려하여야 한다.
