The objective of this study is to provide the basic research data suggesting the direction of death education for young children. For this, targeting 30 researches related to death education for young children published in theses and journals from 1984 to 2017, the year & issuer, research subject, research method, and research contents were analyzed. In the results of analyzing the year & issuer, relatively, 1-2 researches were continuously conducted from 1984 to 2017. Theses and scientific treatises were published by eight schools and 15 societies respectively. Regarding the research subject, the researches were concentrated in young children and literature. Next, the survey study was in the same ratio with the experimental study, In case of the research contents, the theses were concentrated in the concept of death while the scientific treatises showed the relatively-even distribution in most of the analysis category. In the results of discussion based on such research contents, the death education had the same context with the holistic education. Therefore, as the objective of this study, the direction of death education for young children should be approached in the multidisciplinary and multilateral method.

이 연구는 유아 죽음교육의 방향성 제시 및 기초연구자료로 활용되는데 목적을 둔 것이다. 이를 위해 1984년부터 2017년까지 학위논문과 학술지에 게재된 유아 죽음교육 관련 연구 30편을 대상으로 하여 연도 및 발행처, 연구대상, 연구방법, 연구내용에 대해 분석하였다. 연구결과 연도 및 발행처 분석에서는 1984년부터 2017년까지 1-2편씩 비교적 지속적으로 연구가 이루어졌으며 학위논문은 8개 학교, 학술지 논문은 15개 학회에서 게재되었음을 알 수 있었다. 연구대상에서는 유아와 문헌을 대상으로 한 연구에 편중되어 있었다. 연구방법에서는 문헌연구가 가장 높게 나타났으며 다음으로 조사연구와 실험연구가 동일한 비율로 나타났다. 연구내용에서는 학위논문의 경우 죽음개념 관련 연구에 편중되어 있었으나, 학술지 논문은 대부분의 분석범주에서 비교적 고른 분포로 나타났다. 이상과 같은 연구내용을 토대로 논의한 결과 죽음교육은 홀리스틱 교육과 같은 맥락이라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 이 연구의 목적인 유아 죽음교육의 방향은 다학문적이며 다각적인 방법에서 접근이 이루어져야 함을 제시하는 바이다.
