The purpose of this study was to develop a sex education program for elementary school students in higher grades using drama, and to investigate the effect of the students’ program participation on their sex consciousness. The following research questions were posed to achieve the purpose of this study. First, how should a sex education program using drama be organized? Second, what effects will the sex education program for elementary school students in higher grades have on the sex consciousness of elementary school students in higher grades? In order to solve the above research questions, the present study was conducted in the following three steps. First, a drama program for sex education of elementary school students in higher grades was developed. For the acquisition of sex knowledge and the formation of positive sex attitude, which are the sub-elements of sex consciousness, 7 learning topics were determined along with the core questions for each session after analyzing the 2015 National Sex Education Standards and the Sex Education Demand Survey with Students conducted by Aha Sexuality Education and Counseling Center for Youth. Based on these core questions, a sex education program using drama was developed. Second, the subjects of this study were 24 students in the researcher’s homeroom class at B Elementary School located in Seoul. The sex education program was implemented with the students for a total of 7 sessions. Third, after completing the program, analysis was conducted on the collected data and before and after tests results combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The results of this study conducted as described are as follows: First, the sex education program was developed using drama techniques so as to achieve the goals of sex knowledge acquisition and sex attitude formation along the topics of learning. Second, through the sex education program developed in this study, the students' level of sexual knowledge improved, and they became able to think positively about their sexuality, respect the sexuality of others, and think critically about sex culture. Through this study, it was confirmed that the characteristics of "as if" thinking and acting in drama guided students to generate new meanings of ‘sex/sexuality’ by allowing the students to safely share their thoughts about ‘sex/sexuality’ and induced the students’ spontaneity and interest by facilitating sex education that is physically experienced by the students. Therefore, it is expected that in a follow-up study of this study, programs could be composed in more detail to allow the students’ powerful immersion in the ‘dramatic fiction’ situations in educational drama so as to demonstrate higher effectiveness in using drama for sex education of students.

본 연구는 초등학교 고학년을 대상으로 교육연극을 활용한 성의식 교육 프로그램을 개발하고, 이 프로 그램의 참여가 아동의 성의식에 미치는 영향을 탐색하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구 목적과 관련된 연구 문제는 다음과 같다. 1. 교육연극을 활용한 성의식 교육 프로그램은 어떻게 구성할 것인가? 2. 교육연극을 활용한 초등학교 고학년 성의식 교육 프로그램은 초등학교 고학년의 성의식에 어떤 영향 을 미칠 것인가? 위의 연구 문제를 해결하기 위해, 먼저 성의식의 개념과 초등교육에서의 성의식 발달에 대한 내용을 살 펴보았다. 또한 교육연극의 의미와 특성에 대해 살펴본 후, 성의식 교육에 있어서 교육연극의 활용 가능 성에 대해 탐구했다. “2015 성교육 표준안”과 “성교육 수요조사”를 분석하여 성의식 교육 프로그램을 개발하였다. 프로그램의 효과성을 검증하기 위해 성지식 사전사후 검사를 실시하였고, 성태도 변화를 질적으로 분석하기 위하여 비디오 촬영기록, 참여자 성찰 일지, 참여자 인터뷰 자료, 교사의 성찰 일지 등을 수집하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 본 연구의 프로그램은 학습 주제별로 성지식 요소가 많은 주제는 전문가의 망토 기법을 활용하여 프로그램을 구안하였으며, 성태도 요소가 많은 주제는 과정드라마 수업의 개발 원리를 채택하여, 프로그 램을 구성하였다. 둘째, 본 연구의 프로그램을 통해 학생들의 성지식 수준은 향상되었으며, 자신의 성에 대해 긍정적으로 생각하고 타인의 성을 존중하며, 성문화에 대 해 비판적으로 생각할 수 있게 되었다. 본 연구를 통해 교육연극이 가지는 “마치~인 것처럼” 생각하고 행동하는 특성은 “성”에 대한 생각을 안전하게 공유하여 새로운 의미를 만들어낼 수 있으며 몸으로 체험하는 성의식 교육이 가능하게 하여, 학생들의 자발성과 흥미를 이끌어 냈다는 데 의의가 있다. 본 연구의 후속 연구에서는 교육연극이 가지 는 “극적 허구”상황에 더 강하게 몰입할 수 있도록 프로그램 구성을 세밀화 하여 학생들의 성의식 교육 에 더 높은 효과성을 드러낼 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.
