[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of self-esteem in relationship between interest in appearance and appearance management behaviors of Golf participants. [Method] Research subjects selected to achieve this goal were 243 Golf participants located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, and convenience sampling method, which is a non-probability sampling method, was used. To analyze the data collected, SPSS PC+ 24.0 for Windows and Amos 24.0 program were used to carry out descriptive statistic analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equation model analysis were conducted. [Result] The results of analysis after following the above research methods and procedures are as follows: First, interest in appearance was found to have an impact on self-esteem. Second, interest in appearance was determined to have an impact on appearance management behaviors. Third, it was discovered that self-esteem have an impact on appearance management behaviors. Finally, self-esteem was concluded to have a mediation effect on interest in appearance and appearance management behaviors. [Conclusion] It is necessary for a Golf coaches to recognize the importance of a Golf participants self-esteem and to make efforts to enhance their self-esteem.

[목적] 본 연구의 목적은 골프참여자의 외모관심과 외모관리행동의 관계에서 자아존중감의 매개효과를 검증하는 데 있었다. [방법] 서울과 경기도 지역의 골프참여자 243명을 대상으로 설문지를 이용하여 조사연구를 진행하였 다. 자료처리는 SPSS 24.O과 AMOS 24.0을 이용하여 기술통계분석, 확인적 요인분석, 신뢰도 분석, 상관관계분석 그리고 구조방정식모형 분석을 실시하였다. [결과] 본 연구결과는 첫째, 골프참여자의 외모관심은 자아존중감에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 골프참여자의 외모관심은 외모관리행동에 긍정적인 영향을 미치 는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 골프참여자의 자아존중감은 외모관리행동에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 골프참여자의 외모관심과 외모관리행동에서 자아존중감은 매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. [결론] 골프참 여자의 자아존중감이 중요함을 인식하고 이를 향상시킬 수 있는 지도자의 관심과 노력이 필요하다.
