Descriptive Structure of This paper is to examine descriptive structure and expression methods in , one of the signature works of Hakcheol Kim, based on a research result on the author, to identify its ideological and artistic characteristics and its significance in the history of literature. The followings are the results of this study : First, showed the social contradiction at that time through opposition and conflict among steady characters and created typical figures who rebelled against Japan during Japanese occupation of Korea. Also, it effectively used popular literature including novels based on reciting of a drama and modern history novel such as for the source to apply open descriptive structure and episodes to add excitement of novels and criticism and sarcasm on reality. Second, not only vitalized phrases and proverbs that had wisdom of people during the time of oppression against our tradition and sentiment, but also created and used various expressions freely to maximize wit and humor. Therefore, can be considered a representative full-length Korean Chinese novel published in the new chapter of history, as an artistic monument made into a novel about resistance of Korean volunteer soldiers against Japan.

이 논문은 김학철에 대한 기존 연구 성과를 바탕으로 그의 대표작 중 하나인 <격정시대>의 서사 구조와 표현 수법을 살펴봄으로써 이 소설의 사상예술적 특징과 문학사적 위치를 구명하는데 목적이 있다. 연구의 결과를 요약하면 아래와 같다.첫째, <격정시대>는 부동한 인물 성격들 간의 대립과 갈등을 통해 그 당시의 사회 모순을 드러내고 일제 강점기에 일제와의 투쟁에 나선 전형적인 인물들의 형상을 창조하였다. 또한 판소리계 소설을 비롯한 민중들의 문학과 <임꺽정>과 같은 근대 역사소설에서 자양분을 섭취해 개방적인 서사 구조를 사용하고 에피소드를 적절하게 활용함으로써 소설적 재미와 함께 현실에 대한 비판과 풍자를 더해 주고 있다.둘째, <격정시대>는 우리 민족의 전통과 정서가 억눌렸던 시대에 민중의 지혜가 깃든 성구, 속담 등을 생동하게 살려 쓰고 있을 뿐만 아니라 다양한 표현 수법들을 자유자재로 창조하고 구사하여 해학과 유머의 극치를 이루고 있다. 요컨대 <격정시대>는 조선의용군의 항일투쟁을 소설화한 예술적 기념비로서 새로운 역사 시기에 발표된 중국조선족의 대표적인 장편소설로 평가할 수 있다.
