The Turkish Influence on Bulgarian Dialects

원문정보

초록

영어

In this study, I will try to examine the hypothesis of the uneven distribution of the Turkish influence, not only on the broader scale of east vs. west but also in more details within the eastern group. I will use predominantly, but not exclusively phonetic feature. Compared to lexical borrowings, whose present state is hard to judge with any statistical precision, the phonetic level presents relatively well-formed structures that allow more reliable conclusions about various degrees of interference. The features presented in this paper support the claim that the Turkish influence was somewhat stronger on the eastern than on the western dialects and that within the eastern group the Pomak dialects, especially in the eastern Rhodopes, were more heavily influenced. However, the Turkish influence in the latter group did spread to the grammar. The use of Turkish numeral and some pronouns, together with the Turkish greeting, exemplify a speech style, a ritualistic pattern of language use associated with group identity rather than structured and consistent result of language contact.
