The purpose of this study is to understand the life and academic life of the graduate students in physical education who majored in dance in the undergraduate, and understand their identity by linking personal life, social and his-torical contexts. For this purpose, we selected three research participants of the graduate school of physical educa-tion majoring in dance. In-depth interviews, various performance materials, choreography (choreographer 's chor-eography, journal, thesis) were collected and description, analysis and interpretation were used for Life history re-search method. As a result of the analysis, the dance major students form a new perspective on dance, physical education, practical skill and scholarship by deepening into the culture of physical education to understand the lan-guage and culture. Physical education graduate students who majored in dance did not give up their previous dance related life. They are located on the borderline between the life of dance and the life of the current physical education, and they form a 'boundary identity' that encompasses diversity through academic exchanges of dance and physical education.

본 연구는 학부에서 무용을 전공한 체육학 대학원생들의 삶, 학문 교육에 관한 일상을 파악하고, 개인적 삶과 사회적, 역사적 맥락들을 연결하여 그들의 정체성을 이해하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 3명의 무용전공 체육학 대학원생의 연구 참여자를 선정하였다. 심층면담, 각종 공연 자료, 글(연구 참여자의 안무노트, 일지, 논문)등의 자료를 수집하고 기술, 분석, 해석을 하는 생애사적 연구 방법을 사용하였다. 분석 결과 무용전공생들은 낯선 체육대학원의 언어와 문화를 이해하기 위해 체육의 문화로 깊숙이 들어가 생활하면서 무용과 체육, 실기와 학문에 대한 새로운 시각을 형성하게 된다. 무용을 전공한 체육학 대학원생들은 이전의 무용 관련 삶을 포기하지 않았다. 연구 참여자들은 무용의 삶과 현재 살고 있는 체육의 삶의 경계선 위에 있으며, 무용과 체육의 학문적 넘나듦을 통해 다양성을 내포하는 ‘경계적 정체성’을 형성함을 알 수 있다.
