Differences of Adolescent’s Social Information Processing According to the Types of Conflict Resolution within a Friendship

The purpose of this study was to examine the differences of adolescent’s social information processing according to the types of conflict resolution within a friendship. The subjects of the study were 580 adolescent(302 boys and 278 girls) who were selected from 5th and 6th grade of elementary schools in Busan. The major findings were as follows: Nonstrategy-passive type was less competent in social information processing than the other types. They showed high levels of hostile and internal attribution, low levels of prosocial goals, high levels of exploration for attack and mediation-requesting responses, low levels of exploration for nonattack responses, high levels of decision for attack responses and low levels of decision for nonattack responses. Also, dominance-oriented type was poor social information processing. They showed high levels of exploration and decision for attack responses. But, multistrategy-avoidance dodging type and multistrategy-dominance dodging type were more competent in social information processing than the other types. Therefore, it is necessary to teach social information processing skills considering the types of conflict resolution for adolescent.
