The objective of this study was to investigate the electrochemical properties of Nafion/Pt-TiO2 composite membrane under various humidifying conditions. In this study, I synthesized TiO2 nanoparticles followed by the in-situ deposition of Pt nanoparticles on TiO2. The membrane electrolyte assembly (MEA) was fabricated with Nafion/Pt-TiO2 composite membrane and tested for the cell performance and discussed. In this work, TiO2 nano-powders and TiO2/Pt nano-composites were prepared via sol-gel method. To evaluate and compare the electrochemical properties of the prepared material with the ones synthesized with commercial TiO2 nano-powders, X-ray diffraction analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, electron microscopy (TEM, SEM), and PEMFC cell test were utilized. The results showed that sol-gel TiO2 had better surface characteristics and crystallinity when it underwent calcination and Pt-particles were deposited better on materials prepared through sol-gel method. It was concluded that optimum condition for high cell performance was obtained when TiO2 was processed through sulfonation and synthesized with sol-gel method.
