This study is reviewing Japanese geographics education and disputes on Geographical Regions in the late 1930s, and how the disputes influenced on the National school's education in the 1940s by the Ministry of Education(MOE) and Chosen Governor Seat(CGS). The results are as follows : Kagawa, supporting the Static Regional Geography, emphasized instruction according to each region and item. On the contrast, Nishiki supporting the Dynamic Regional Gegraphy opposed to Kagawa's uniform instruction. Nishiki also insisted to recognize each region's own character synthetically, and focused on Geographical Regions education including "Nationalism". Nishiki's opinion was reflected on the textbook revision of both MOE in 1943 and CGS in 1944. Regarding their contents and formation, National school's textbooks reformation were aiming at dynamic geography, priority-oriented and Tokyo-oriented policy instead of previous static, item-oriented and Expanding horizon geography. This was a point of compromise between pure children-focusing theory and Nationalism used as a means of education during the Pacific War.

본 연구는 1930년대 후반 일본의 지리교육계에서 이루어진 지리교육과 지리구에 관한 논쟁을 검토하고, 그 반향으로서 지리구 논쟁의 결과가 1940년대 전반 문부성과 조선총독부의 국민학교 지리교육에 미친 영향을 고찰한 것이다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다.지리구 논쟁에 있어서 香川幹一은 정태지리의 입장에서 일본지리의 지방별, 항목별 교수를 강조했다. 반면, 西龜正夫는 香川幹一의 획일적인 지방별, 항목별 교수에 반대하고, 그 대신 동태지리 및 등질지역의 입장에서 지리구를 설정하여, 주제 중심으로 각 지역의 특성을 종합적으로 인식하도록 했다. 또한 西龜正夫는 전시체제교육에 부응할 수 있도록 국가주의 사상이 가미된 지리구를 강조했다.지리구에 대한 西龜正夫의 주장은 1943년 문부성과 1944년 조선총독부의 국민학교 지리교과서 개혁에 반영되었다. 내용구성에서 본 문부성과 조선총독부의 국민학교 지리교과서 개혁은 종래의 정태지리에서 동태지리로, 항목주의에서 중점주의로, 그리고 동심원적확대주의에서 東京중심의 지리로의 전향이었다. 이는 문부성과 조선총독부가 태평양전쟁하의 국민학교 지리교육 개혁에 있어서 순수교육학적인 아동중심주의와 교육의 도구화로서 국가주의를 동시에 고려한 결과였다.
