The study was conducted in 2003 by Kim Dae-han (56), a former arson attack on the arson attack on the Daegu subway arson attack. About a total of 192 people were killed and about 150 serious casualties were reported, and about 20 people were reported missing. It is also an arson attack that caused massive physical damage and social impact. If arson occurs in space limited by subway, the second Daegu subway arson attack will occur again. Most cases of arson are pedestrians. Then, arsonists question why they choose to commit crimes and why they commit arson for some reason. In this study, we look into a similar case of arson, psychological and social environment of arson, and seek common factors by utilizing criminal records such as police, the Supreme Public Prosecutor`s Office, and criminal policy researchers. The cause of arson is totally arsonists. However, the reasons for the social environment can not be refuted. Consideration is given to the nature of the case and the reference materials to find common causes and causes for the behaviour of the arsonist. We hope to provide a basis for prevention of future accidents by detailing the behavior of arsonists and the common factors of living environment.

이 연구는 지난 2003년 대구지하철 방화사건 김대한(당시 56세) 방화범의 행동 특성에 관한 연 구이다. 개인의 단독 범행으로 192명의 사망자와 150여 명의 중상자가 나왔고, 약 20여 명이 실종 된 방화사건이다. 또한 막대한 물적 피해 와 사회적 충격을 준 방화사건이다. 지하철처럼 공간 제 한적인 장소에서 방화가 발생한다면 제2의 대구지하철 방화사건은 또 발생할 것이다. 방화는 단 독범행인 경우가 대부분이다. 그렇다면 방화범은 왜 범죄행위를 방화로 선택하고 무슨 이유로 방 화범죄를 저지르는지 의문이 생긴다. 이에 본 연구에서는 방화범의 개인적, 심리적, 사회 환경적 여러 가지 요인을 이와 유사한 방화 사건사례로 고찰하고, 경찰, 대검찰청, 형사정책연구원 등 범 죄발생 통계 자료를 활용하여 공통 요인을 찾고자 한다. 방화의 원인은 전적으로 방화범 자신이 다. 하지만 사회 환경 이유도 배재할 수 없다. 사건사레 및 참고문헌을 고찰하여 방화범의 행동 특성에 있어 공통요인과 원인을 찾고자 한다. 방화범의 행동 및 생활환경 공통 요인을 자세히 기 술하여 앞으로 발생될지 모르는 방화를 예방하는 기초자료가 되길 희망한다.
