The historical drama is a useful means to get a glimpse of the beauty culture at that time, such as makeup, hair style, costume, ornaments, etc., as well as the social culture of the specific era. In this paper, I studied Jang Ok-jeong’s hair style changes in order from Danggi, Saeang, Geodumi, Chubzee, Daesu and jjok according to her social status in the drama which was broadcasted on SBS broadcasting station. As a research method, we refer to scholarly articles, journals and books related to the Joseon Dynasty and also books about design. In the drama, Jang Ok-Jeong’s hair style and ornaments were analyzed based on the visual data collected through the SBS Film Resources Center. As a result of this study, Jang Ok-Jeong as the wife of King ‘Sukjong’ during the Joseon Dynasty period, was able to show a variety of changes from the status of low class of person to being a sinner from the queen. However, there is a historical hair style in the drama, but it was a style that made a lot of modern changes for the drama’s character so there was a little difficulty in seeing the historically accurate style. In this research, it is meaningful to analyze the hair style according to the social status of the historical drama based on the Joseon Dynasty period and to let the public know what kind of social status the hair style represents at that time. Also, I hope that future research will lead to the study of hair style according to the change of social status in other era.

사극드라마는 그 시대의 특정한 시대와 사회의 문화 뿐 만 아니라, 등장인물의 메이크업, 헤어스타일, 복식, 장신구 등을 통해 그 당시의 미용문화를 엿볼 수 있는 유용한 수단이라 고 할 수 있다. 조선시대는 엄격한 신분사회로 신분마다 다른 헤어스타일을 연출한다. 드라마 ‘장옥정 사랑에 살다’ 중에서 장옥정은 반천민 신분에서 여성의 신분 중 가장 높은 계급은 왕후까지 올랐다가 폐위되어 죄인이 되기까지 파란만장한 인생을 살았던 인물로, 자신의 주장과 매력을 겸비한 여성이었기 논문 주제인물로 선정하였다. 조선시 대 신분의 변화에 따른 모든 헤어스타일을 볼 수 있는 인물이다 .이에 본 연구에서는 SBS방송국에서 방영되어진 드라마 ‘장옥정 사랑에 살다’의 캐릭터 중 장옥정의 신분 별 헤어스타일을 연구하였다. 연구를 위해 조선시대와 관련된 학술논문, 학술지 논문, 조선 시대 관련서적과 디자인 관련 서적을 참고하였고, 드라마 장옥정의 헤어스타일과 장신구 는 SBS영상 자료원을 통해 수집한 시각자료를 바탕으로 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과 신분사회인 조선시대 숙종의 부인이었던 장옥정은 반천민의 신분부터 왕후에서 죄인이 되기까지 다양한 헤어스타일 변화를 볼 수 있었다. 하지만 ‘장옥정 사랑에 살다‘는 역사적 사실을 고증하기는 하였으나 드라마의 특성상 현대적으로 많이 변화시킨 형태이기에 정확한 고전적 스타일을 보기에는 조금 어려움이 있었다. 본 연구의 결과 조선시대는 신분별 헤어스타일은 엄격히 구분되었는데 주인공 장옥정의 각 신분에 따른 헤어스타일 은 본 드라마의 캐릭터와 부합되게 연출하였으며, 조선시대 신분에 따른 헤어스타일에 대한 이해를 도울 수 있는 기초자료를 제공한데 의의가 있다. 향 후 조선시대 뿐 만 아니라 고려, 신라, 백제시대 등 다른 시대의 왕비들의 신분 변화에 관해서도 더 자세한 연구가 이루어지기를 바란다.
