Audrey Hepburn is a style icon who represents 1950s and 1960s and her style and image have infinity which transcends ages. Among them, hairstyle is a direct decoration performed on the body as a factor which can create visual images in the context of 'formative art.' Since there is lack of studies so far which focused on Audrey Hepburn's hair styles, this study analyzed formative nature of Audrey Hepburn's hair styles and images which appeared in 1950s and 1960s when she was acting most robustly. As the result of analysis on her hair styles, her hair mainly placed centering on top and golden point and showed vertical and diagonal directions while, in analysis on expression of forms, Audrey Hepburn displayed the form of prolate which emphasized sense of volume and created neat and gracious images through sleek texture. The most frequently mentioned adjective in the analysis of Audrey Hepburn's images were 'sophisticated, elegant and simple.' The result of this study demonstrated that hairstyles have significant effect on the creation of images in the overall images of a star and this study is expected to provide detailed basic material for formative nature and composition of images of Audrey Hepburn's hair styles.

오드리 헵번은 1950∼60년대를 대표하는 스타일 아이콘으로 그녀의 스타일과 이미지 는 시대를 초월한 무한성을 지니고 있다. 그 중 헤어스타일은 인체에 행해지는 직접 적인 장식으로서 ‘조형예술’이라는 맥락에서 시각적 이미지를 창조할 수 있는 요소이 다. 그 동안 오드리 헵번의 헤어스타일만을 중점적으로 연구한 선행연구들을 미비한 실정으로 본 논문에서는 오드리 헵번이 가장 활발하게 활동했던 시기인 1950~1960 년대 영화에 나타난 오드리 헵번 헤어스타일의 조형성과 이미지를 분석하였다. 헤어 스타일 분석 결과 공간에서는 주로 후두부를 중심으로 조형을 배치하였고 수직과 사 선의 방향성을 보여주었으며 조형의 표현분석에서는 오드리 헵번은 주로 볼륨감을 강조한 장구형 형태를 나타냈고, 매끈한 질감을 표현을 통해 단정하고 우아한 이미지 를 만들었다. 오드리 헵번 이미지 분석에서 가장 많이 언급된 형용사로는 세련된, 품 위 있는, 소박한 이라는 이미지 형용사였다. 이와 같은 연구의 결과로 스타의 전체적 인 이미지에서 헤어스타일이 또한 이미지 결정에 미치는 영향력이 크다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 오드리 헵번 헤어스타일의 조형성과 이미지 구성에 관한 구체적 기초자료를 제공하는 계기를 마련할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
