The purpose of this study is to examine the trends and prospects of Taekwondo history. The research methods are summarized from 2008 to 2017, 17 articles published in Journal of Korean Physical Education, Journal of Korean Physical Education and Sports, Kukkiwon Taekwondo Study, Journal of Physical Education. The age classification was divided into Taekwondo and medieval studies, Taekwondo modern and contemporary history studies, Taekwondo whole company / partial history studies, and Taekwondo people history studies. As a result, the discussion about Taekwondo and medieval history focused on Taekwondo. From the ancient Three Kingdoms period, the theory of the traditional tradition that Taekwondo began, and the revisionism claiming the origin of Okinawa that originated in Japan 's Okinawa and the revised contents of the traditional tradition appeared. Studies that support the position of Taekwondo traditionalists have justified Taekwondo by linking it with watermelon, mokjer, etc. On the other hand, revisionism claims that Taekwondo is similar to Okinawa Karate, and that Japanese students study karate and introduce it to Korea. We should be able to argue that Taekwondo has been transformed through cultural dialogue in the course of systematization. The important thing is not just allegations, but justification with logical discovery and logical system. Patriotism, nationalism, and so on, rather than an appeal to emotions such as patriotism and nationalism.

이 연구의 목적은 태권도역사의 연구동향과 전망을 알아보는 것이다. 연구방법은 2008년부터 2017년까지 한국체육학회지, 한국체육철학회지, 국기 원태권도연구, 체육사학회지 등에 발표된 17편을 정리하였다. 시대구분은 태 권도 고중세사 연구, 태권도 근현대사연구, 태권도 전체사/부분사연구, 태권 도 인물사연구로 구분하였다. 그 결과 태권도 고중세사는 태권도 기원설과 관련하여 논의가 집중되었다. 고대 삼국시대부터 태권도가 시작되었다는 전통주의 입장과 일본의 오키나와에서 시작되었다는 오키나와 기원설을 주장 하는 수정주의 그리고 전통주의 일부 내용을 수정한 신전통주의 이론이 등장하였다. 태권도 전통주의 입장을 지지하는 연구들은 태권도를 고중세의 맨손타격무술로서 수박, 각저 등과 연결하여 주장을 정당화하고 있다. 반면에 수정주의는 태권도가 오키나와 가라테와 유사하고 일본유학생들이 가라 데를 배워서 국내에 도입했다고 주장한다. 태권도가 이땅에서 시작하여 체계화하는 과정에서 문화 접변을 통해서 창조적 변용이 이루어졌다는 것을 주장할 수 있어야 한다. 중요한 것은 주장만이 아니라 사료발굴과 논리적 체계성을 갖추고 정당화를 진행해야 한다. 애국심, 국가주의 등의 감성에 호소하는 주장이 아니라 이성을 설득하는 논리와 근거를 통해서 입증해야 하는 숙제를 가지고 있다.
