The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of art therapy treatment for anxiety reduction and improved self esteem in adolescents who refuse school attendance. The study's participant was one adolescent who refused school attendance in B middle school in A area. They received a total of 12 sessions of art therapy twice a week, each session lasting 60 minutes. The measurement tools used in this study were the Excessive Anxiety Scale and Self Esteem Scale which are subdomains of BBRS for pre and post tests. Results of art therapy sessions were analyzed qualitatively. The results of this study were as follows; art therapy was effective on both anxiety reduction and improvement of self esteem in the adolescents who refused school attendance. Art therapy was also confirmed to be effective in improving positive changes through the observed behavior in these sessions. The subject showed and increase in their desire to express themselves, their self knowledge, and pride in their art achievements.

본 연구는 미술치료가 등교거부 청소년의 불안감소 및 자아존중감 향상에 미치는 효과를 알아보기 위해 실시되었다. 연구대상은 A지역 B중학교에 다니는 등교거부 청소년 1명으로 단일사례로 진행하였다. 연구대상에게 주 2회, 1회기 60분씩 총 12회기의 미술치료프로그램 을 실시하였다. 효과검정을 위하여 BBRS의 하위 영역인 심한불안영역과 자아존중감 척도 를 사전 사후에 실시한 후 효과를 분석하였다. 아울러 미술치료 회기별 변화과정을 질적으 로 분석하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 미술치료 프로그램이 등교거부 청소년의 불안감소에 효과적 이었다. 둘째, 미술치료프로그램이 등교거부 청소년의 자아존중감 향상에 효과적이었다. 셋 째, 회기별 행동관찰에서도 불안감소 및 자아존중감 향상에 긍정적인 변화를 보인 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 본 연구에서 미술치료가 등교거부 청소년의 불안감소와 자아존중감 향상 에 긍정적이고 효과가 있음이 입증되었다. 결론적으로 미술치료는 욕구표출 및 자기이해와 작품의 성취도가 효과적으로 작용하여 등교거부 청소년의 불안감소 및 자아존중감 향상에 도움을 준 것으로 볼 수 있다.
