Acknowledging religious life converges upon universality and particularity, religions in 21st century have been trying to find ways of living together in the spirit of religious pluralism by practicing virtues such as tolerance, cooperation, reconciliation, and festival. In this context, this paper emphasizes to go beyond the paradigm of ‘religious dialogue’ towards the paradigm of ‘religious peace.’ All religions, metaphorically speaking, share a common aspect that they are keenly aware of the illness of the world, thus shedding light upon the way of recovering its health. When we regard the overall process of such recuperation as the universal concept of ‘peace,’ the relationship among religions can reach a unified cooperation with a shared end while each religion maintains its own truth-claim. In this regard, this paper suggests four practical virtues to reach not only religious peace but also world peace transcending religious borders. Firstly, as they try to overlap each other’s vision for peace in adumbrating a unified image, religious people are required to maintain that process of sharing in peace. Secondly, the relationship between religions must be two ways in the level ground. Thirdly, a holy competition of altruistic love for all humanity is recommended while each religion is trying to reduce the gap between its own religious teaching in depth and its realization in life. Lastly, religions are required to recover their reputation from the society by proving that they are able to actualize peace between them.

인간의 종교적 삶이 보편성과 특수성의 연속선상에 있음을 직시하는 가운데, 21세기 종교들은 관용, 협력, 화해, 축제 등의 정신을 통해 종교다원주의의 선을 지향하며 상생을 도모하고 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 본 논문은 다소 소극적이고 관망적인 ‘종교 간 대화’ 패러다임을 넘어 이제는 ‘종교 간 평화’ 패러다임으로 전환해가야 함을 강조한다. 대부분의 종교는 인간과 세계가 병들어있음을 직시하고 그 병의 원인 및 치유 방법을 알려준다는 점에서 일맥상통한다. 이렇게 건강한 상태를 지향하는 그 과정 전반을 ‘평화’라는 보편적 개념으로 투영할 때, 종교 간 관계는 각자 종교의 고유한 진리 체계를 유지하면서도 인류의 제 문제에 대응하는데 있어서 일치와 협력을 이끌 수 있다. 이러한 관점에서 본 논문은 종교 간(間) 평화, 더 나아가 초(超) 종교적 세계평화를 지향하는데 있어서 종교인들에게 요구되는 네 가지 실천 덕목을 다음과 같이 제안한다. 첫째는 종교인들이 서로의 종교적 관점이 투영하는 평화의 세계를 중첩시키면서 그 과정을 평화적으로 지속해가자는 것, 둘째는 종교 간의 수평적이고 양방향적인 주고받음의 관계를 유지하자는 것, 셋째는 자신의 종교가 신봉하는 가르침의 깊은 뜻과 실제 삶의 간극을 좁히려는 노력을 경주하는 가운데 인류를 위한 이타적이고 숭고한 사랑의 경쟁을 펼쳐가자는 것, 그리고 마지막으로 종교와 종교가 깊은 평화의 물꼬를 틀 수 있음을 행동으로 증명해 가며 종교 자체의 위상을 회복하자는 것이다.
