The purpose of this study is to introduce the e-portfolio and suggest implications to develop career e-portfolio system in college level. The most recent literature including web documents have been examined and the current status of e-portfolio in three American universities, where e-portfolio system is utilized in university-wide, are examined.
While the e-portfolio system is mostly used in the advanced countries, such as US and England, this concept is quite new in Korea. Universities and colleges in US are providing e-portfolio services to students and faculty members to accumulate their work samples and build curriculum vitae. The advantage of career e-portfolio system is to demonstrate career readiness by providing concrete artifacts in electronic depository. Also it enables students to reflect their learning over the years and motivate to design their future career direction.
A structure of university e-portfolio system was developed to be used in universities. Developing and maintaining e-portfolio system requires continuous resource allocation and effort. A consortium of several universities or government institutions are recommended to lead the e-portfolio system building to facilitate exchange of resources and portability and compatibility of e-portfolio while individuals pursue lifelong career. The result of this study can be utilized to develop an e-portfolio system in universities to guide students’ learning and preparation for the career.

이 연구의 목적은 경력개발 e-포트폴리오의 개념과 활용 현황에 대한 문헌 고찰 및 미국대학 사례연구를 통하여 한국의 대학들이 학생들의 경력개발 준비 및 교육을 위한 경력개발 e-포트폴리오 시스템을 효과적으로 구축하고 운영할 수 있는 방안을 제시하는데 있다.
미국 3개 대학의 사례연구에서 볼 수 있듯이 대학들은 대학과 졸업생들의 경쟁력을 높이기 위하여 e-포트폴리오 제도를 이미 활용하고 있거나 적극적으로 도입하고 있으며 최근에 와서는 대학 컴퓨팅 서비스의 주요 요소가 되고 있다.
연구의 결과로 대학 e-포트폴리오 시스템 개발 시 포함되어야 하는 내용 구성 항목들, 관련부서와의 유기적 협조관계를 보여주는 내요구성체계표 그리고 시스템 구축 및 운영에 있어서의 유의점을 제시하였다. 이 연구의 결과는 대학 혹은 정부차원에서 e-포트폴리오 시스템을 개발할 때 시스템 구축 및 운영을 위한 효과적인 방안을 제시해 줄 수 있을 것이다.
