This paper examines the connection between Lee Eoryeong, a korean critic and existentialism. This relates to the problem of establishing the status of Lee Eoryeong in the post war criticism in Korea. The postwar criticism of Lee Eoryeong is intended to fight against people who are absorbed in the country's indigenous and regional identities, such as Kim Dongri, Cho Yeonhyun, and Seo Jungjoo. The critical confrontation between Lee Eoryeong and Kim Dong-ri centers on how to interpret the writer Han Mal-suk's “Edge of Myth”(신화의 단애). In other words, it was a central question of whether this short story could be understood as a existentialism work of authenticity. This process of arguing shows that Lee Eoryeong had a closer understanding of the concept of Martin Heidegger than Jean Paul Sartre of existentialism, ‘Ek-sistenz’(‘탈존’). Lee Eoryeong published a kind of experimental novel, ｢The beard of the General｣(｢장군의 수염｣) based on the concept of such an ‘existence’,‘Ek-sistenz’(‘탈존’). The understanding of these remarks also implies the understanding of the controversy between the poet Kim Su-yeong and Lee Eo-ryeong. The understanding of Lee Eoryeong’s postwar criticism implies a great deal in understanding the argument between poet Kim Suyoung and Lee Eoryeong. Lee's postwar criticism was not for lack of ‘politics’, but for exploring more fundamental real issues beyond ‘politics’.

이 논문은 이어령과 실존주의 관련성을 검토한 것이다. 이는 한국 전후 비평에 있어 이어령의 위상을 설정하는 문제와 관련이 있다. 전후의 이어 령 비평은 김동리, 조연현, 서정주 등의 토속적, 지방적 ‘정체성주의’에 대 항하는 의미를 지닌다. 그의 이러한 문제의식은 그가 일제 강점기 작가 이상을 부각시킨 데서도 나타난다. 이어령과 김동리의 비평적 대립은, 작가 한말숙의 ｢신화의 단애｣를 어 떻게 해석할 것인가를 중심으로 이루어졌다. 즉, 이 단편소설을 실존주의 적인 의미에서 진정성을 가진 작품으로 이해할 수 있는가가 논쟁의 중심 적인 문제였다. 이러한 논쟁 과정은 이어령이 실존주의 사상에 대해 사르 트르보다는 하이데거의 개념, 즉 ‘탈존’에 더 가까운 이해를 가지고 있었 음을 보여준다. 이어령은 그러한 자신의 실존 개념을 중심으로 일종의 실 험소설인 ｢장군의 수염｣을 발표했다. 이러한 이어령 전후 비평의 이해는 김수영과 그 사이에 벌어진 논쟁을 이해하는데도 많은 점을 시사한다. 이어령의 전후 비평은 ‘정치’의 결핍이 아니라 ‘정치’를 넘어서 더 근본적인 실존적 문제를 탐구하고자 한 것이었다.
