The purpose of this study is to find the direction and main status of the research and development of the defense weapon system, and to find out how to foster and support the defense science technology that can lead the future battlefield environment. It analyzes the characteristics of the defense weapon system through the defense industry and defense research and development policies of the major advanced countries and examines the characteristics of the defense weapon system. Suggesting the consideration of the implementation of the national R & D policy. Through the research, efficient allocation and utilization of budgets among defense research and development fields will be discussed in depth, It is necessary to examine policy and institutional measures to induce defense R & D investment led by private defense companies.

본 연구는 국방 무기체계 연구개발의 추진방향과 주요 현황 등을 확인하면서 미래 전장 환경을 선도할 수 있는 국방과학기술의 육성과 지원방안을 모색하기 위한 목적으로 진행이 되었다. 국내의 국방 무기체계 연구개발 추진 환경과 국방예산 추이, 예산 재정소요 전망, 투자 효율성 등을 살펴보고, 주요 선진국의 방위산업과 국방 연구개발 정책 등을 통해서 국방 무기체계의 특수성과 특징을 분석함으로써 발전적인 국방 연구개발 정책의 추진 시 고려사항을 제언하였다. 연구를 통해 앞으로 국방 연구개발 분야 추진 간 예산의 효율적 배분과 활용방안 등이 심도 있게 논의되어야 하겠으며, 민간 방산업체 주도 하 국방 연구개발 투자를 유도할 수 있는 정책적, 제도적 방안도 검토가 필요할 것으로 판단된다.
