Safemo : A Proximity Sensing Device with GPS Tracker for Bikers

Increase in usage of technology and smart devices provides opportunities for a cost-efficient safety gadget that helps the victims during unpredicted dangers. Safemo, a microcontroller based safety device for bikers was made to provide additional security for bike users. It works in such a way that when an incoming vehicle is near to the biker, the ultrasonic detects the vehicle, the led and buzzer turns on subsequently, thus alarming the biker. Safemo also provides a safety SMS alert system. The SMS alert system utilized an android smartphone with the Safemo app installed. The android smartphone was used for receiving the location of the biker and sending an emergency message which contains the biker’s location to a chosen recipient. Safemo acts as a trigger, sending command to the phone to send the alert message. Results of user satisfaction survey showed that the fabricated device had 4.29(1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest) score for the usability, 4.26 for the aesthetics and design, and 4.53 for the functionality. It has 96.14% accuracy and 98% degree of precision within 4 meters range The SMS alert system was also successfully established. Data suggests a positive user satisfaction feedback of the said innovation based on a conducted survey. This paper covers descriptive details about the methods, application, testing and results that were obtained in the study.
