This study was conducted based on the problem awareness that the studies on the social participation through the employment and the work targeting the elderly are insufficient and the awareness that the studies on the approval toward the governmental welfare expenses - the welfare awareness by the elderly - are necessary. This study aimed to analyze and examine the differences in the social participation motive of 452 elderly people aged 60 years and older and the support toward expanding the governmental welfare expenses and the mediating effects of social capital. Second, the factors which showed significant differences with regard to the social capital of the study targets were academic background, type of activity, and reason of working. Third, participation motive had significant influence on the approval toward the government expanding welfare expenses. Fourth, participation motive had significant influence on social capital, network, and norms. As the factors enhancing the participation motive of the elderly, among the overall factors and the subordinate factors of social capital, network, norms, and participation acted as the positive influence factors. Fifth, when it came to the participation motive influencing the approval toward the government expanding welfare expenses, the integrated social capital factor and the subordinate factors of social capital - norms and participation - played the mediating role. This study result maintains mutual bond for the common benefits of the members of the society and implies that the members of the society increase the participation in social activities as the normative properties playing the role of preventing the limping of a community based on rational and altruistic acts increase and that this becomes the factor of improving the approval toward the government expanding welfare expenses.

노인을 대상으로 고용 및 일을 통한 사회참여에 대한 연구는 미비하다는 문제의식과 더욱이 노인이 생각하는 복지의식인 국가의 복지지출에 대한 지지에 대한 연구의 필요성에서 연구하였다. 사회활동에 참여한 경험이 있는 60세 이상 452명을 대상노인들의 사회활동 참여 동기 및 정부의 복지재정지출 확대 지지에 대한 차이 및 사회적 자본의 매개영향을 분석, 규명하고자 하였다. 분석결과 첫째, 노인들의 참여동기에 유의미한 차이를 보이는 요인으로는 성별과 급여, 일자리 참여 경험과 참여 이유 등에서 유의미한 차이를 보이고 있었다. 둘째, 연구 대상자들의 사회적 자본 요인에서는 학력, 활동유형, 일을 하는 이유 등이 유의미한 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 참여동기는 사회적자본, 네트워크, 규범, 참여에 유의미한 영향을 미치고 있었다. 넷째, 참여동기가 정부의 복지재정 확대 지지도에 미치는 영향에서 사회적자본은 규범, 참여 요인에서 매개역할을 하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
