This study is a fundamental research to grasp the structure of traditional color scheme. According to linguistic determinism, the importance of coloring is determined by the association and the concept. The traditional colors, which are still name given colors, have various claims ranging from 90 colors to 230 colors, so that even the exact numbers are not clearly defined. Naturally, it is difficult to find out the method and results of research on classification and structure of color. This study focuses on the Annual of the Joseon Dynasty as an alternative to find accurate sources and examples of traditional colors. The contents of this study were searched for the previous researches from the basic theoretical background to the structure of the color words, and the color words recorded in the annals were searched and classified. As a result of the study, the Annual of the Joseon Dynasty records have many coloring words which are difficult to classify by the existing classification system. In particular, these colors are often not universal. As a result, we classified the traditional coloring language into 16 kinds. Three of them correspond to the basic classification, basic coloring, generic coloring, and systematic classification. The subcategorical methods included dyeing, pigments, and techniques. They were also classified as ananomes, adjectives, metaphors, tinnitals, and others. The definite number of traditional colors with coloring has not yet been confirmed, and it is often the case that the Chosunwangjosillog include not only universal colors but also recorded colors. In addition, many coloring words which are difficult to classify by the conventional classification method are recorded. Therefore, it is natural that this research is limited to basic research, and research for the traditional color scheme will continue.

본 연구는 전통색 색채어 구조를 파악하기 위한 기초연구이다. 색채어의 중요성을 언어결정론에 따라 말하자면 개념과 사고는 언어가 결정한다는 것이다. 아직 색채어가 부여된 전통색은 90색에서 230색까지 다양한 주장이 있어 정확한 숫자조차 명확히 규명되어 있지 않다. 당연히 색채어의 분류, 구조에 대한 연구방법이나 결과는 찾아보기 어렵다. 이에 본 연구는 전통색의 정확한 출처와 용례를 알 수 있는 대안으로 조선왕조실록에 주목하였다. 본 연구의 내용과 방법은 이론적 배경, 색채어 구조의 선행연구를 탐색하고, 실록에서 색채어를 조사하고 이를 분류하는 방법으로 진행하였다. 연구결과 조선왕조실록에는 기존의 분류법으로는 분류하기 어려운 색채어가 많이 기록되어 있다. 특히 이러한 색채어들은 보편적이지 않은 경우에 해당되는 경우가 많다. 결과로 전통색 색채어를 16가지로 분류하였다. 이중 3가지는 기본 색채어, 관용 색채어, 계통 색채어로 대분류에 해당한다. 소분류 방법은 염색법과 안료, 기법 등이 포함되었다. 논어, 고사성어, 은유, 이명, 기타 등으로도 분류하였다. 색채어가 부여된 전통색에 대한 명확한 수는 아직 확인되지 않고 있는 것은 물론 조선왕조실록에는 단 한차례 기록되어 있는 색채어를 포함하여 보편적이지 않은 경우에 해당되는 경우가 많다. 또한 기존의 분류법으로는 분류하기 어려운 색채어가 많이 기록되어 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 기초연구라는 한계는 당연하며 전통색 색채어 구조를 위한 지속적인 연구가 진행될 예정이다.
