This study examines the effect of sexual abuse victimization on Korean adolescent suicidal ideation based on general strain theory. The results show that sexual abuse victimization is significantly and positively associated with adolescent suicidal ideation. The probability of suicidal ideation for those who experienced sexual abuse is 16% higher than those who did not experience sexual abuse. Also, depression and anxiousness mediate the relationship between sexual abuse victimization and suicidal ideation. Despite the seriousness of adolescent sexual abuse victimization, only 1.8% of adolescents responded that they received help from the police. Also, unlike general wisdom, the data show that the number of male sexual abuse victims is higher than that of female sexual violence victims. Male victims, however, are less likely to ask help. To prevent the suicide of sexually abused adolescents, the police needs to make efforts for increasing report rates, strengthening networks with related institutions, and preventing secondary victimization during the criminal justice process.

본 연구는 2015년 아동·청소년 인권실태조사 자료를 이용하여 청소년의 성폭력 피해가 자살생각에 미치는 효과를 일반긴장이론의 관점에서 분석하였다. 로지스틱 회귀분석 결과, 성폭력 피해경험은 자살생각과 유의한 정의 관계를 나타냈으며, 성폭력 피해경험을 한 청소년은 그렇지 않은 청소년보다 자살생각을 할 확률이 약 16% 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 이 관계는 우울감 및 불안감 등 부정적인 감정에 의하여 부분적으로 매개되었다. 한편, 이러한 성폭력 피해의 심각성에도 불구하고 경찰로부터 도움을 받았다고 응답한 청소년은 전체 피해 청소년의 1.8%에 불과하였다. 또한 일반적인 통념과 달리 본 연구 자료상 남성 성폭력 피해자가 여성 성폭력 피해자보다 더 많았음에도 불구하고 타인에게 도움을 요청한 비율은 훨씬 적었다. 성폭력 피해 청소년의 자살을 예방하기 위한 경찰활동의 방향으로, 신고율 제고를 위한 노력, 유관기관과의 네트워크 강화, 수사과정에서의 2차 피해 방지 노력 등을 제시하였다.
