The purpose of this study is to analyze the present condition and character of leadership education as a general education in Korean universities. I analyzed the 44 classes among the courses related to leadership in general education curriculum. The results of the study are as follows. First, it consists of competence based education content focused on experiential learning. Second, Leadership curriculum does not deal with leadership as an independent subject in itself, but there are a lot of leadership courses combining university characteristics and social issues. Third, there are many forms of leadership education linked with various extra-curriculum program of universities. As a general education, I suggested that leadership education should be a competence based education that can set community goals and maximize the ability of communication with members. Also leadership education should reflect universal goals of university education. It should be established as a systematic and integrated education that reflects the ideals of education and philosophy of each university. Leadership education should not be vocational and professional education focused on specific fields. Leadership education should be a whole-person education that fosters thinking ability and expressive ability. The curriculum should be developed so that leadership education meets the fundamental nature of general education that promotes social wisdom and insight

본 연구에서는 대학 교양교육으로서 리더십 교육의 현황과 특성을 분석하였다. 교양교육과정에 편성된 리더십 관련 교과목 중, 총 44개의 교과목들을 분석하였으며, 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 체험학습 위주의 역량 중심 교육내용으로 이루어져 있다. 둘째, 리더십을 독립적인 주제로 다루지 않고, 대학 특성과 사회 이슈와 접목한 리더십 교과목들이 많았다. 셋째, 대학의 다양한 비교과과정 교육 프로그램들과 연계한 리더십 교육 형태가 많았다. 본 연구를 통해 대학 교양교육으로서 리더십 교육은 공동체의 목표를 설정하고, 구성원들과의 원활한 의사소통 능력을 극대화할 수 있는 역량 중심 교육이어야 한다는 점을 제안하였다. 또한 대학 교육의 보편적 목표와 개별 대학의 교육이념과 철학을 반영하는 체계적이고 통합적인 교육으로 정착되어야 한다는 것도 제안하였다. 특정 분야에 집중하는 직업교육과 전문교육의 틀에서 벗어나 전인교육 차원의 사고와 표현 능력을 함양하고, 사회적 지혜와 통찰력을 고양하는 교양교육의 근본적 성격에 부합하도록 리더십 교육 또한 고찰되고, 이를 구현할 수 있는 교육과정들이 개발되어야 할 것이다.
