The architecture of international development landscape has been transformed by the re-emergence of South-South cooperation. Countries like China, India, South Korea and South Africa have intensified their trade and investments efforts across Africa. This study seek to explore the contributions of foreign telecommunication firms to the socio-economic development of Africa using case studies from India’s- Bharti Airtel, South Africa’s -Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) , China’s- Huawei and ZTE and South Korea’s .Korea Telecom (KT). The study uses secondary data from .books, academic articles, newspaper publications, reports and internet sources to provide insight into the pattern and trend of global telecommunication operations and its associated benefits in Africa. Evidence from the paper suggests that the mobile telecommunication boom in Africa has significantly contributed to the socio-economic development of Africa. However, Africa needs to capitalize on the flourishing telecommunication sector and its associated transfer of knowledge to establish their own domestic telecom firms .including the manufacture of low cost handsets.
