The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effects of automatic thoughts, maladaptive self-focused attention, and rumination on a relationship between adolescents’ irrational belief and social anxiety. To this end, this study conducted a questionnaire on 520 students who are enrolled in 3 high schools in Seoul, and used 470 copies on final analysis. The collected data has been analyzed through bootstrapping method for path analysis and verification of mediating effects using AMOS. The key findings of this study are as follows. First, it was identified that adolescents’ irrational belief makes effect on social anxiety by the medium of maladaptive self-focused attention but not through the medium of automatic thoughts and rumination. Secondly, it was identified that adolescents’ irrational belief makes effect on social anxiety through the dual media of automatic thoughts and maladaptive self-focused attention. Also, it was verified that adolescents’ irrational belief makes effect on social anxiety through the dual media of automatic thoughts and rumination. Thirdly, it was identified that adolescents’ irrational belief makes effect on social anxiety through the sequential multiple mediator of automatic thoughts, maladaptive self-focused attention, and rumination. Implication and limitations of this study and suggestions for a follow-up study were discussed based on the results of this study.

본 연구의 목적은 청소년의 비합리적 신념과 사회불안 간의 관계에서 자동적 사고와 부적응적 자기초점주의 및 사후반추사고의 매개효과를 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위해 서울 소재 3개 중, 고등학교에 재학 중인 520명을 대상으로 질문지를 실시한 후, 이 중 470부를 최종 분석에 사용하였다. 수집된 자료는 AMOS를 활용한 경로분석과 매개효과 검증을 위한 부트스트래핑 방법을 통해 분석되었다. 본 연구의 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 청소년의 비합리적 신념은 부적응적 자기초점주의를 매개로 사회불안에 영향을 미치는 반면, 자동적 사고 및 사후반추사고를 매개로는 사회불안에 영향을 미치는 않는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 청소년의 비합리적 신념은 자동적 사고와 부적응적 자기초점주의의 이중매개를 통해 사회불안에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 청소년의 비합리적 신념은 자동적 사고와 사후반추사고의 이중매개를 통해 사회불안에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 청소년의 비합리적 신념은 자동적 사고, 부적응적 자기초점주의 및 사후반추사고의 순차적인 다중매개를 통해 사회불안에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 시사점과 제한점 및 후속 연구를 위한 제언이 논의되었다.
