농구경기 심판의 자질향상을 위한 개선방안은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 공정한 판정을 위해 심판은 높은 체력수준을 유지해야 하는 것이 필수 기능적 요소이다. 둘째, 권위 있는 심판, 우수한 심판이 되기 위해서는 결단력, 용기, 자존감, 단호함, 일관성, 객관성, 겸손이라는 자질이 필요하다. 셋째, 심판이 선수와 감독의 긍정적인 행동을 이끌어내기 위해 스 포츠 정신을 고취시키고 인지시키는 것이다. 넷째, 모든 심판은 신호를 통해 판정을 내릴 시 신호의 정확성을 확신시켜 야만 하며, 의도된 메시지를 전달하기 위해 노력해야만 한다. 다섯째, 경기 중 감정에 대한 신호를 빠르게 읽어내면 갈등 폭발을 막을 수 있으니 갈등을 인지훈련과 경험을 쌓는데 노력해야 한다. 여섯째, 심판의 시각적인 반응 향상을 위해 스 포츠 과학에 입각한 체계적인 훈련 시스템으로 체계적인 시각훈련, 반응시간 단축 훈련이 필요하다. 일곱째, 구단, 감독, 선수를 대상으로 협회차원의 심판에 대한 윤리 및 의식 교육이 선행되어져야 한다. 여덟째, 경기장의 자체 중계시스템을 도입하고 심판교육에 사용할 수 있는 비디오판독 사례들이 제공되어져야 한다. 아홉째, 농구 심판으로서 갖추어야 하는 요소들의 명확한 확립을 위해 교육할 수 있는 전문 심판학교의 개설이 필요하다. 열째, 심판제도를 효율적인 운영과 관 리를 위해서는 충분한 관리요원의 선발과 심판관련 조직의 확충이 필요하다. 열한째, 심판조직을 외부기관으로 따로 분 리시켜 철저한 독립성을 부여하여 운영하는 부분도 심판의 권위를 높일 수 있는 방안인 동시에 심판의 공정성과 전문성 을 높이는데 도움을 줄 수 있다. 이러한 결론을 토대로 농구심판의 자질향상을 위한 개선방안을 효과적으로 시행하기 위해서는 협회, 심판, 구단, 선수 모두의 노력이 필요할 것이다.
