Works of an artist are commonly a conscious expression of individual experiences that are stored unconsciously. However, it is a limited bias to say that they are merely a visual expression of individual experiences. Jung studied artwork by taking a psychological approach on personal lives of artists, and emphasized that interest should lie with the creation process of artists. Artists and their creation process align in simultaneity and unity. Artworks were regarded to have been created impulsively as the notion of creation overwhelms the artist, which stimulates unconsciousness, rather than by the intention of the artist. This study approaches the archetype of artworks by female surrealists with Jung’s analytical psychology theory in order to resolve the biased analysis that is focused on Freud’s theories rooted in children and sex. The purpose of this research is to study whether female artists can leave aside personal lives and artistic perspectives to achieve the tendency for self-realization and analyze the archetype of universality of humans. In regard to the question of what significance the archetype of collective unconscious has in works of female artists and how unconscious of human psychology has been drawn, images of archetype were analyzed based on the topic of collective unconscious – anima and animus. – In order to study the archetypes of artworks of leading female artists. As a result, archetypes of artworks of female artists reflected the life ofcontemporary era and were a process of reaching self-realization based on common human experiences.

예술가의 작품은 인간의 경험이나 체험이 내면의 무의식 속에 저장되어 의식으로 표출되는 것이 일반적인 이해이다. 그러나 예술작품을 개인사적 경험이라는 단순한 외형적 혹은 시각화로 표현하기 에는 너무 제한적이고 편협한 이해라고 본다. 그런 점에서 일찍이 칼 구스타브 융(Carl Gustav Jung) 은 예술을 예술가의 개인적 생활사에서 보여주고 있는 심리학적인 접근방법으로 연구하여 예술가들 의 창조적 과정을 주목해 볼 것을 힘주어 강조한 바 있다. 그래서 융에게 예술가와 창조과정은 동시 성과 일체감으로 서로 호응하는 것이며, 작가의 의도에 따라 작품제작 보다는 창조적 관념이 작가를 압도한 나머지 작동되는 무의식적 충동의 일어남으로 보고 있다. 이 연구는 초현실주의 여성작가들의 작품에서 표현되는 원형상을 프로이트의 유아기적이며 성애 적인 이론분석이란 편중된 이해를 해소하고자 하며, 나아가 그들의 정당한 이해의 기틀이 제공되길 바라며, 칼 구스타브 융의 분석심리학적(Analytical Psychology) 관점으로 접근하고자 한 것이다. 여 성작가의 개인적인 삶과 예술적 관점이란 편협한 시각에서 벗어나고 예술의 창조자로서 자기실현 (Self-Realization)의 경향성에 도달하고자 하는 인류의 보편적 원형성을 여성주의적 작품 속에서 분 석하고자 한다. 여성작가의 작품에서 보이는 집단무의식의 원형은 어떠한 상징적 의미를 담고 있는가? 또한 작품 에서 재현된 무의식 원형을 어떻게 표출하고 있는지? 등의 문제제기를 갖고, 대표적인 여성 작가군을 선정하여 그들의 작품세계를 분석함으로써 예술의 상징적 원형을 아니마와 아니무스의 주제별 로 나누어 분석하고자 했다. 결국 집단무의식의 주제에 따른 원형이미지 분석의 결과는 여성예술의 원형은 자신들의 삶을 이루고 있었던 동시대적 삶의 반영이며, 인류공통의 경험으로서 도달하고자 하는 자기실현의 과정인 것이다.
