This study was performed to investigate female nurses and care workers' experiences with abrupt sexual harassment situations in retirement facilities in Korea. In this study, 8 female nurses and care workers aging 35 to 55 were interviewed for what circumstances and how often and seriously they experienced sex related verbal insults and sexual harassments in 2014. Overall, the nurses experienced less violent harassment than in other social welfare institutions and nursing facilities. However, it is pessimistic that they were confronting unreasonable and abrupt behaviors such as coarse languages, aggressively showing sexual organs, and touching sensitive body portions when they perform nursing measures from physically healthy elderly but in early stages of cognitive impairments. As a conclusion, it is proposed that retirement places need to be connected with nursing homes medical institutions so that the aggressive situations can be controlled by medical professionals. It is also suggested that the men' military responsibilities need to be applied to assisting nurses in retirement places by health science majoring college level male volunteers.

본 연구에서는 3개 양로시설을 방문하여 10명의 30-50대 여성 요양보호사와 방문간호사를 대상으로 직접면담에 의해 그들이 경험한 언어 및 신체적 성희롱은 어떤 것이 있으며, 이러한 성희롱 경험은 노인수발에 어떤 영향을 미치는지에 대해 조사하였다. 연구결과, 20대 연령층도 포함되는 종합사회복지관이나 공동생활가정에 비해 폭력의 심화성은 적게 나타나고 있으나 성적으로 민감한 부분을 만지거나 움켜쥐는 등 모욕감을 주는 충격적 행위를 경험한 사례가 보고되었다. 위협이나 폭력은 아니며 성욕구 충족을 위한 계획적 행동이라기보다는 친근감 표현이라는 남성입장만을 반영한 잘못된 행동방식, 그리고 여성들이 가까이다가가 신체의 모든 부분을 점검하는 과정에서 발생하는 돌발적인 상황, 남성들만이 모여서 무료함을 달래고 남성다움을 표현하려는 담합, 그리고 신체에 밀착하여 관리하는 요양보호와 간호처치를 접하며 신체의모든 부분을 적나라하게 노출시켜 주는 습관, 그리고 의료봉사 활동이나 간호처치 등 업무과정에서 밀착하면서 발생하는 충동에서 파생되는 것으로 나타나고 있다. 보완책으로서, 예측사회화 프로그램이 훈련되어충격을 미리 준비하고 대처하면서 좌절보다는 적극적 대처와 수용으로 임하도록 하는 방안이 개발되어야할 것이다. 또한 문제행동 노인들을 전문 사회복지사가 주기적으로 변화를 관찰하고 상담하며, 폭력적 행동에 대해 우범행위라는 점을 경고하고 외출이나 프로그램 참여 제한 등, 폭력행동에 따른 반사적 불이익이돌아오도록 하는 조치가 동시에 마련되어야 할 것이다.
