The purpose of this article is to introduce Domangsi (悼亡詩, poems of sorrow and reminisce) written by Im Jae-dang (任再堂, 1686-1726), a seonbi (scholar) from the Im(任) family of Jangheung(長興) and find out the implication in the literature history by taking a look at several tendencies of Domangsi of Im Jae-dang. Domangsi of Im Jae-dang is recorded on 󰡔Gapjinilrok(甲辰日錄)󰡕, his diary began to write pending the passing of his wife. Domangsi appearing on 󰡔Gapjinilrok󰡕 is consisted of a total of 102 poems, and considering that Domangsi is generally conveying one or two in the individual collection of writing, it requires attention for the fact of having many works herein. In addition, Domangsi of Im Jae-dang delivers the post-script attached to the poems and diary recorded before and after together that it demonstrates accurately of the motivation and purpose of creative poetry. Domangsi of Im Jae-dang confirms several characteristics in its writing techniques. The technique to arrange the postscript after the poems and the frequent use of the Oeonjeolgu (五言絶句, 5-word poems) that almost is not used in the Domangsi genre would be the characteristics not found in existing Domangsi. In addition, contents of narration are also beyond the typical style. Im Jae-dang and his deceased wife Hong(洪) had no off-spring, and with his wife about to die first, the sense of loss for Im Jae-dang had to appear stronger than other Domangsi writers. Therefore, rather than the poems to console the dead souls, there are more simple poems to express his sorrowful status or sadness. Furthermore, his Domangsi demonstrated the appearance of home management and high praise of words and manners of his wife. As if proving the intimate husband and wife relationship, the characteristics of the Im Jae-dang poetry are shown frequently with confession-like writing as if he is paying tribute for his deceased wife. Domangsi of Im Jae-dang is the data gaining the attention by its existence along under the situation that there are only some 300 poems in Korea known to this point. Im Jae-dang drew his deceased wife in diverse angles, and enthusiastically consoled his lamentation for himself, and sublimed his sorrow through poetry. Those 102 poems of Im Jae-dang display the new possibility in relation to the expansion of Domangsi data and enlargement of studies.

장흥 임씨 가문의 선비인 임재당(任再堂, 1686-1726)이 쓴 『갑진일록(甲辰日錄)』이라는 일기에는 죽은 아내에 대한 그리움을 담은 102수의 도망시(悼亡詩)가 수록되어 있다. 이 글에서는 임재당의 도망시를 소개하고, 발굴의 성과를 밝히는 목적에서 임재당 도망시의 내용과 서술상의 여러 특징들을 고찰해 보았다. 임재당의 도망시는 무엇보다 양적으로 주목되는 자료이다. 지금까지 파악된 한국의 도망시가 400여 편 정도인 상황에서 임재당의 도망시는 100여 편이 넘기 때문에 수량만으로도 이목을 끈다. 또한 일기 속에 시가 소재(所在)한 특징상 창작 시점과 전후 배경을 확인할 수 있어서 도망시의 창작 배경을 정확하게 고구할 수 있는 자료로 가치가 있다. 임재당은 도망시에서 자녀 없이 부부 중심으로 살았던 삶의 자취와 후사에 대한 여러 고민들을 가감 없이 드러내었다. 아내의 평소 언행과 가정 경영의 공을 상세하게 기술하여, 아내를 추억함과 동시에 덕과 능력을 겸비한 아내의 부재가 곧 자신의 고통임을 표현하였다. 다만 일반적인 도망시가 아내에 대한 애도나 칭양에서 그치는 것에 비해, 임재당의 경우는 부인이 오랜 기간 난임 치료를 하다 약물 중독으로 세상을 떴고 후사도 정하지 못한 상황이었기 때문에 자책과 자기 비관적 서술이 짙게 나타난 특징이 보인다. 임재당의 도망시는 전하는 편수가 많고 또 일기와 함께 기록되었기 때문에 서술 방식 상 주목되는 부분들이 있다. 도망시를 짓고 후서(後序)를 추가로 배치하여 아내의 행적이나 시를 부연 설명하는 형식은 다른 도망시에서는 확인되지 않는 임재당 도망시만의 독창적인 모습이다. 또한 전하는 많은 시편 속에서 죽은 아내를 향한 자기 고백적 언술과 표현들을 자주 보여주고 있어서, 이를 임재당 도망시의 주된 표현 방식으로 주목해 보았다. 현재 임재당은 조선에서 가장 많은 도망시를 남긴 작가이다. 임재당은 죽은 아내에 대한 감정을 다수의 도망시 창작을 통해 다양한 각도로 드러내고, 또 자신의 애통함을 적극적으로 표현하면서 스스로를 위로하고 슬픔을 승화시켰다. 임재당의 도망시 102수는 한국 도망시 자료의 확대, 연구 방향의 편폭 확장과 관련하여 새로운 가능성을 보여주고 있다.
