This study investigated multicultural children’s life satisfaction over 5 years (ages 10 through 14) using the Multicultural Children-Youth Panel Data of National Youth Policy Institute in Korea. Two-level growth models were constructed to investigate children’s life satisfaction trends and their correlates. In a model incorporating linear and quadratic terms in level 1 and multicultural children’s background characteristics in level 2, there was a stronger quadratic rather than linear trend over five years. Male children’s overall satisfaction and the rate of satisfaction over time were larger than those of female children, but father’s education and monthly home income were not statistically significantly associated with the children’s average life satisfaction. Intercept, linear and quadratic slope random effects were statistically significant, which means the existence of individual differences in growth trajectory. All the covariates of a model incorporating time-varying variables (viz., self-esteem, relationship with family, relationship with peers, satisfaction with academic achievement, and relationship with teachers) were statistically significant, in descending order by size as listed. However, the level-one intercept, linear, and quadratic random effects were no longer statistically significant. Gender effect also disappeared. Suggestions were made to enhance the multicultural children’s life satisfaction.

본 연구는 한국청소년정책연구원『다문화아동청소년 패널조사』를 이용하여 10세 아동을 대상으로 5년(초등 4학년부터 중학교 2학년까지)동안 삶에 대한 만족도 추이를 2수준 다층성장모형을 이용하여 살펴보았다. 만족도는 선형적이라기보다는 비선형적인 변화 특성이 더 강하게 나타났다. 평균 만족도와 변화율(선형기울기)에 있어서는 남자 아동이 여자 아동․에 비하여 더 높았다. 그러나 아동의 가정환경변인인 아버지 학력과 월소득은 유의하지 않았으며, 이런 변화양상에 있어서 개인차가 있었다. 시간에 따라 변화하는 변수들을 1수준에 넣었을 때, 자아존중감, 성적에 대한 만족도, 교우관계 무선효과는 통계적으로 유의한 효과가 있었다. 만족도에 미치는 효과에 있어서 자아존중감, 가족관계, 또래관계, 성적에 대한 만족도, 그리고 교사와의 관계 순으로 나타났다. 그러나 1수준, 절편, 선형 및 비선형 무선효과는 유의하지 않았으며 성차 효과도 사라졌다. 아동의 만족도 제고를 위한 논의가 있었다.
